I'm only 21 years old, but I feel like tomorrow is the zenith of all that has come before.

Hippies had their Woodstock, rednecks have their NASCAR races, average Joes (yuck!) have their Superbowls, and geeks have the Lord of the Rings marathon!!!!!

I can't hardly f#$%king wait!!!!!

It's nice if stereotypes make you feel warm inside, and "the bad race" is presented to you with black skin, dreadlocks, and a Cain-esque origin story.

But no one was surprised when Hollywood came out with this not two years after wiping blacks from primetime shows in 1999.

2. I didn't read the books until after I had read the first book...

Which I was totally embarassed about because even my brother, who is a total illiterate (the only thing he reads is the sports page) had read the books, and I hadn't. But after seeing the movie, I couldn't put them down and went through them in about a week. I won't be doing a marathon, because I have to work during the day, but I will be there at the first showing after work.

Or rather it has been spread out. I watched the first movie, uncut about a week ago, second one a couple of days ago (ugh...), and I plan to watch the third movie as soon as I can...although I may wait a little bit, maybe on sunday afternoon, to avoid the crowds.

I love the books, and have been anticipating all of this movies form the start, but I have not seen one preview or seen a picture form the third movie yet..I'm going in blind.

I just hope it's better than two towers, what a disappointment that was! The unedited version is even worse :puke:

I love the books too, and first read them as a kid in '76, so they seem almost like family (as only the most beloved books of our childhoods do). I liked the first film, except the casting of Hugo Weaving as Elrond, which was just awful. But the second film was a HUGE disappointment! Jackson's invented sequences were nothing more than a child's desire to show more monsters, and tripped up the flow of the story. The art direction was a mess of one monochromed location after another, and gave nothing to the emotional beat of the film. Pure crap, IMHO,and such a shame because the film came soooo close, yet fell so far of the mark due to such mindless drivel. I hope the last one does a better job of maintaining Tolkien's story and vision, but I'm not holding my breath.:-(

If it had been more compact it might have been a little better. That was my favorite book in the series, and the one that I was most looking forward to seeing on screen. I guess that might have something to do with my disappointment.

Oh well, I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.

Surely that should read, "Lord of the Rings movie nerds, I summon you!!!!!!!!!". As an admirer of Tolkien's writings I simply can't
muster any enthusiasm for Jackon's efforts.

8. I just got back from getting my tickets for tomorrow's midnight

opener; I am taking my 16 year old daughter and one of her friends. We were holding the second spot in the line; we were there for about 3.5 hours. We'll be starting with the first two parts of the trilogy on DVD right after school tomorrow; heading to the theatre immediately afterwards so we can get some good seats.
I am excited!

After the galloping intelligence displayed in the first two parts of "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, your fear may be that the director, Peter Jackson, would become cautious and unimaginative with the last episode, "The Return of the King." Look at what "The Matrix" did to the Wachowski brothers; the last two were like action movies made for CNBC.

But Mr. Jackson crushes any such fear. His "King" is a meticulous and prodigious vision made by a director who was not hamstrung by heavy use of computer special-effects imagery.

Mr. Jackson does take his time, but he's not sloughing off here. Rather he is building toward a more than solid conclusion. The grandiloquence that sustained the second installment, "The Two Towers," with its pounding and operatic martial fury — a movie that actually created a state of siege and left audiences hanging — can be found here.

The actors all look older than they did in "Fellowship," and it fits the strategy of employing the same cast over an extended period for the films. This decision adds fresh dimension to the lingering sadness, as we can see some of the bloom worn out of their flesh and sadder, reddened eyes on all of them.
