I've noticed a lot of DUers share my eclectic musical tastes
from the Clash to Neil Young...

from Uncle Tupelo to Elvis Costello

from the Jayhawks to the Ramones

from Coltrane to Johnny Cash

and it makes me wonder...

what do you all think the freepers listen to? Whatever clear channel tells them to? I wonder if they know Pigboy's open was the Pretenders? Do they even listen to music?

If they do I'm damned sure it isn't as good as the stuff around here :)

4. No really, you pretty much pegged it....My music collection spans
...just about anything an everything. I like my rock classic or progressive, I like instrumental, I like classical, I even enjoy classic country. Bout the only thing I dislike is modern country music and hip hop.

7. Pigboy uses the Pretenders?
So, everyday he broadcasts, he pays a royalty to the woman who allegedly said, re the "War on Terror", "I hope the terrorists win"?!

And here's me thinking irony was dead...

9. We listen to everything from Cash to Rage Against the Machine
Virtually every different type of music is in our CD collection.

Toms Waits to the Dixie Chicks
Neil Young to Eminem
NWA to Arvo Part
The Guerilla's to Screamin' Jay Hawkins
The Pixies to Altan
the Beatles to Dolly Parton
Stevie Wonder to Ramstien
Nirvana to Bob Marley

We have them all stuffed in our Ipod to listen to whenever the notion hits us.

We don't have to much World Music or contemporary Pop Music though.

As far as pop music goes we do occasionally dabble in it whenever someone that doesn't suck comes along. For example I like No Doubt and Sarah MacLachlan. Our children will have a taste of all the greatest music.

The freepers don't like to actually think, so they listen to music that is not too complicated. God forbid that music actually have something to say.

if you have ever heard his stand up piece I Blow Minds For a Living its quite eerie (recorded during iraqi oil liberation part one) Die For Oil Sucker should be a classic
Any way Jello Biafra has the smartest advice (see sig pic)

He sounds like someone we would definitely be into! If you like the Pixies, Frank Black's new album kicks ass. It sounds absolutely nothing like the Pixies, it actually sounds more like the band Blue Mountain. They use plenty of traditionally bluegrass instruments but mixed with electric guitars and a new sound with a little Beck and a fifties sound thrown in their for fun. It is an awesome album and I have never heard anything like it.

What kind of music is it? I am partial to a rock song with a funky deep bass beat. I love this site! We have been saying for a while that we need to look for some new bands. We are always happy to hear something new!

I just realized that my list above is kind of mainstream, we have plenty of obscure stuff, too. I generally appreciate something that does not have the music industry's hands all over it. I highly recommend Doc Watson to any blue grass fans.

15. One of the greatest bands that never quite hit
They put out three albums in the late 70s and 80s, but Root died in the late eighties. They were a hard rockin'/fusion band with great music and lyrics. Their one hit was "Boogie 'til You Puke", but other songs like "Heartbreak of Psoriasis" and "In Jail in Jacksonville" are gems.

Their first album was engineered by Katz and Nichols, of Steely Dan fame, and it's one of the VERY few albums to get four stars in Rolling Stone's "100 Best Albums of Rock and Roll".

Ah, Root...

Here's a little taste of "In Jail In Jacksonville"

All I had was the roaches, true
Told the pigs what they could do
Then they found a couplea pounds
Too bad that cocaine was around

In jail in Jacksonville
In jail in Jacksonville

Didn't have a dime for a call
Public defender laughin' in the hall
Now my life is just an utter mess
You can reach me at my new address

In jail, etc...

(unfortunately, I'm moving, so the albums are all packed up...)

17. For some reason
whenever I think of Root Boy Slim my brain also conjures up Mojo Nixon. I've no idea why, they aren't all that similar but there he is. Elvis is everywhere........

16. I hate to go all serious
but you touched upon a point I noticed a long time ago and have been trying to make fit into my social philosophy ever since.

Freepers don't. They simply don't listen to music. Of any sort. Oh they MAY have a radio on somewhere, at some time, but they don't HEAR it. They just aren't moved by music. They don't tap their feet, play drums on the steering wheel, sing along, and they NEVER dance.

One exception. Shitkicker country types. They do music sure, but to be honest I don't consider them real Freeper types. Just a lil misinfirmed with perhaps an overly developed patriotism gland.

I think the creative area of the brain is associated with music appreciation, and also associated with an open mind. We have it, they don't. Perhaps near-future medicine will cure rampant Conservatism. I can dream can't I?

18. Who knows what they listen to
but it would seem, if they want music which confirms their view of the world, they'd be pretty limited.

I don't imagine they seek out too many other voices, either.

In my mind, I just seem them listening to Wayne Newton without irony.
