Poll question: How do you clear the snow off of your car??
It's always amusing to see how folks clear off the snow on their car - which type of person are you??

1. Clear snow?
Huh?

If it snows like that around here, I know I'm not going to work. I also know the whole city is shut down. So, who needs to clear the snow? I just let it melt. :P

26. The nice part is all the extra roll...
...since the grass is sorta green and sorta brown, and we haven't had much rain lately, the ball just rolls forever.

The bad part is all the overseeding of the greens. If it isn't the flocks of birds, it's the aeration holes, or the less frequent mowing of the greens. I can live with it though.

27. Let's go in February, Professor.
You can golf. I can visit my brother.

Later we can visit the "Museum of Modern Giant Belt Buckles" and then all go to dinner at Chuy's.

Then again, until I'm sure that I'm not a fugitive from justice (the whole vibrator thing, from another post) I'm not positive they'll let me back in the state.

29. February's nice, too.
Late February is even better. There's a chance for a freak ice storm, but a better chance for temps in the 60s and lots of sun.

Mmmmm...Chuy's...musical interlude at the Continental Club, perhaps?

..and a SRV cover band will be playing that night.

Personally, I'm big on comedy clubs. And so's me bro.

But that does sound like fun.

39. There's comedy too.
Esther's Follies is hilarious. There's a comedy club near my house too that seems to draw people I've heard or seen on Comedy Central.

But, how can you go wrong with this atmosphere?

3. Just QUIT Using Your Garage For Storing Boxes... And Park The Car In It.
It works great!!

Now... for the OTHER car, I'll start the engine 20 minutes ahead of time and defrost most of it. Then sweep off every remaining speck of snow.

Don't some places have laws against driving with too much snow on the hood/roof/trunk of your car? Those flying snow-bricks can be dangerous.

6. More interestingly
...Some places have laws against starting your car and running it for more than five minutes. Pollution, ya know!

Actually, that happened this summer to me, neighbor started his old truck first thing in the morning and ran it for half an hour, the wind was just wrong, and the exhaust blew right into the window. Hell of a way to wake up!

My house doesn't have a garage, BTW.

4. Move to Florida
That clears the snow off, real good.

And if you do move to Florida, take the car-train if you can. What a great and novel experience.

On the trip down I saw my first free flying eagle. It struck me as being sort of symbolic or something.

5. I don't even have a brush to clear the snow off with
I have a tiny little scraper that I use. I do the front and back windows and the driver and passenger sides - and the lights.

Then I let defrost take over.

8. I clear off every last bit.....
I know its a bit anal retentive, but I feel like such an idiot driving around with just my windows cleaned off.
The minute its done snowing I'm out there cleaning it off. If it snows overnight, I go out about twenty minutes or so early, turn on the defrost and heat full blast, and by the time I go back out it brushes off pretty easily.
Living in Maine, you tend to have lots of opportunities to ponder the correct, most effective method.

9. No, you're not "anal"...
I clear it all off, too. Nothing I hate more than having to focus attention on a "snow drift" to see it it's really a car with only viewports scraped in the windows. Ergo, I sweep it ALL off so people can SEE that it's a truck, and not a lump of snow...

12. I clear all the windows
Let the rest of that stuff blow off. It only takes five minutes or so to scrape ice, so snow goes quickly. I live in the country, though, so I don't worry too much about my snow blowing on other's windshields.

18. Use a broom for heavy snow
Doesn't take more than a couple of minutes.

Broom stores nicely in trunk or back seat.

I don't what the problem is when people take all morning with a tiny scraper or else drive around with shedding cars.

Anyway, spare yourselves and have a nice holiday.

37. I use a brush, not an ice scraper. . .plus a small shovel. . .
and to help remove ice, I use a half-gallon jug or two full of hot water (plastic half-gallon jugs formerly containing apple cider)

For really big snows, I also have a small plastic shovel, the kind used by backpackers and mountain climbers to clear the area around my car.

38. You know that water can crack your car windows
I remember a morning show in the Philly area told their audience to use hot water to de-ice the car windows. Thirty minutes later some woman called into the show and said she did that and her car window cracked.

41. What is this "snow" to which you refer?
Is it that whitish rain that falls about once a year, and melts on impact? Don't you just ignore it unless there's more than a micrometer on the road, in which case no one goes anywhere? That's how it is in Seattle - round-the-clock weather updates every three minutes on every station if so much as one flake sticks to the ground. Everyone panics. Since no one has any idea how to drive in it, you're much better off leaving your car right where it is and not leaving the house until it's gone, which is usually in about half an hour.

to Massachusetts, where the preferred method of snow removal is to clear a porthole - then head out on the highway and let 495 do the rest!!

Here in the north a full cleaning is called for.
