“The Clinton Wars” by Sidney Blumenthal

I just finished reading this book last night. I highly recommend it. It’s a long book – 800 pages, and a heavy read. Blumenthal goes into great detail of the partisan “Clinton Wars” endured during the Clinton years beginning with the campaign before the 1992 election and through the stealing of the 2000 election in Florida and aftermath. I am disgusted beyond words.

I’ve read other books that show the Republicans and their machinery as the crooked and despicable partisan political pigs they are, but the criminal activity, out and out lies and chicanery used by the right described in this book trying to take Clinton down or to force his impeachment even though there were no justifiable charges to impeach him for just disgust me beyond belief. And the media dutifully fell in line all they way, ignoring any exculpatory information, and embellishing and indeed creating news that tended to discriminate against Clinton that didn’t objectively exist.

I didn’t think I could get anymore sick, angry, or disgusted with the political state of affairs in this country. I was wrong.

2. What gets me about his description of the tripe they put out...

Is that so many of the mainstream press bought it hook, line and sinker without questioning it--in many cases just parroting it straight out on the pages of their papers or columns, or on the air!:mad:

Oafs like Floyd Brown--whom James Carville once called "that little hiccup of a man", just handed the media whores "press releases" and FAXed his crap to them, and they would put it out without even fact-checking, much less any editing. Proves most of them were in the Right's pocket when Clinton first ran, if not well before.:grr:

10. The ONLY time I'd ever read one of Ann Coulter's books...

Is to get it from the library.

Thus far, I haven't cured my gag reflex as of yet, so I won't be doing that anytime soon.

I may have to immediately re-read Michael Moore, Al Franken or Molly Ivins to counteract Ann's bile.

I really don't think I could stomach reading one of her books though, anymore than I could sit through a Bill O'Reilly program. I think it would upset my stomach and give me the trots.

16. I don't know if I can stomach it...

Sometimes I feel I already know more than is heathly for me to know. I get so disgusted with all that the Repubs have done. I don't think the average American wants to devote the time and attention to what's really going on (esp. the Christian Rights TREMENDOUS power).

17. This is definately a book that will make you sick at what they have done

I already knew the impeachment was a sham but I didn't know the lengths and the extent to which it was manufactured. It was literally a creation out of thin air, lies, propaganda and wishes by the right wing. They had to stand the Constitution on its head to do it. Absolutely appalling.

20. I read both of those too. Yeah, it does get pretty disheartening

After reading "The Clinton Wars" I decided I needed to read something not so heavy and I have "Stupid White Men" by Michael Moore sitting in front of me ready to crack. I have several more books to read but I need a break from the worst of the sickening too.

Consider that there have been a spate of anti-Bush/right wing books lately. And that they show up on the best seller lists.
