would keep the voices in his head from being too annoying.

Not-so-snarky-answer: Hope he gets the help he needs.

he was scorching.

Most men's looks improve as they age, but Mel just lost it very early.

On a related topic, this thread is so funny. I haven't laughed this hard since the South Park Episode, the Passion of the Jew.

32. I really loved that film
He was one of my first crushes so it was really devastating when he turned out to be so homophobic. BTW if you loved this film you should watch Lorenzo's Oil by the same director. It is a totally different movie but very good.

20. He had a major drinking problem years ago
the wife got him to go to AA meetings in So Ca to finally stop drinking. He admits to being a recovering alcoholic but has never said that he stopped drinking with the help of AA because he wants to keep it anonymous. I think he never cared about the Catholic church and never went to mass until he stopped drinking.

30. Bad boy Mel's history

"Not that Gibson has always been a model citizen. In the mid-Eighties he was drinking five beers before breakfast, and - like his cinematic heir, Russell Crowe - never shied away from a punch-up in a bar. There were often girls with him in those bars, although it was never proved that he broke the sacred marriage vows. He was arrested for drunk driving in 1984. In either 1986 or 1991 - depending on which story you believe - he managed to stop drinking completely. Smoking is another matter: he seems constantly on the verge of giving up."

36. Didn't know that
I have to say on personal experience with AA that it really does work well. I don't agree with Gibson's theological and political views but alcoholism is a terrible disease.

25. where was he going at 2:36 am?
Mel Gibson was arrested by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in Malibu, Calif. early this morning for suspicion of DUI. Bail was set at $5,000.

He was pulled over on the Pacific Coast Highway and a Breathalyzer test was administered. The arrest report lists the time of arrest as 2:36AM and the time booked as 4:06AM.

A spokesman for the Los Angeles Country Sheriff's Department told TMZ, "Mel Gibson was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. He was released later this morning. The investigation was still ongoing, just like it would be with any other person."

39. He had been in recovery
I know people who struggle with this and it is truly one day at a time. He donated millions to the poor in mexico when he was making a movie and has publically spoken against Bush. I don't have a link for that, but I don't think that he is the right wing wackjob we used to think he was. He also was in the doc about the Electric Car, so he might have a progressive side as well. I think he is a Libertarian though...

45. he was against the Iraq War
from the beginning. I think he's nutty sometimes, like building his own church on his Malibu estate so he can have a priest say the mass in Latin every day. But he was always vocal about his opposition to the Iraq war.

He has said he has an addictive personality. You're right, it's one day at a time. Hope he gets help.

41. My brother almost got Mel Gibson (& himself) killed driving him home
after an evening of drinking a few years ago. (My sister was working with MG, and they had all gone out to dinner and drinks together). My brother was trying to pass another car, and a truck was coming the other way, and he barely avoided a head-on collision.

44. Hope nobody was hurt...I have no patience with drunk drivers. None.
I have two motherless grandchildren, thanks to a drunk driver. I have two daughters who miss their sister.
I have a broken heart, and so does her dad...

Just hope nobody was hurt and he gets some help if he needs it so this won't happen again.
