How well do you think your favorite NFL team will do this season?
Edited on Sun Jul-30-06 05:07 PM by mvd
I'll predict a 10-6 season and a possible playoff birth for the Eagles, barring any major injuries. I can't see them being as bad as they were last year - they were a consistent playoff team. But the team depends on quite a few things going right, so I'm pretty sure there will be no Super Bowl.

4. Patriots could go 11-5.
If the pass defense tightens up a bit and Corey Dillon is healthy. He needs to rush for at least 1400 yds.
They dont have an overbearing schedule either.

5. Hopefully a repeat
but I'll be happy with the playoffs because the Orioles are yet again a disappointment. I'd like to see another Cowboys-Steelers Super Bowl again and unlike Super Bowl XXX this one will be a win and there's no O'Donnell to throw the ball to Larry Brown.

Last year was an aberration. Defense is much improved, D-Mac is healthy and they are going to get another receiver before camp ends. They just need to avoid major injuries and they're right back in it.

15. Eagles? Condolences. I thought it was hard being a Cowboys fan.
You guys need to fire everyone in your front office, then maybe you'd have a chance for an even season. I'm still not sure about Reid, either. Used to think he was good, but that may have only been in comparison to Rhodes. He couldn't handle TO, can't handle McNabb, seems to turn into a crybaby every time he has a decent season, and gets worse when he has a bad season. I would say he'd wind up running off his best player again this year, but I don't think he has anyone left good enough to run off, unless McNabb is healthy again, and if McNabb is healthy, he won't be able to show it because he doesn't have a team around him. You guys had one good year because you finally got a player who could play, so they started playing media games and ran him off.

I'm not gloating, I'm seriously sympathizing. People rag on Jerry Jones and his penchant for hiring sows ears looking for silk purses, but the Eagles over the last decade have made Jones look brilliant.

My Cowboys have a real good chance to win the NFC East, only because every other team has serious potential to not win it. I'd pick the Giants if they had a coach. I'd pick the Eagles if they still had TO. I'd pick my Cowboys if they had a QB who didn't choke. I'd pick the Redskins if I wanted to make everyone laugh. Someone will win it; the rules require someone to win it. And every one of the teams will pull at least one major upset over some contender this season.

So I'll pick the Cowboys to go 9-7 and come within a touchdown or less of beating every playoff team they play, as always. Giants, 7-9, just because I don't think the coach can handle Eli. Redskins, 5-11, cause they suck, Gibbs or not. Eagles, either 7-9, or 9-7, depending on who is right about TO. I say he destroys them in the two games he plays against them. If I'm wrong, Eagles win the division. I think TO is the MVP of either the Cowboys or the Eagles this year.

18. Such a short memory.
Gibbs, Moss, Portis, oh, and Cooley with 3 td's.

You underestimate all the other teams in the East. I don't think there will be a team under 8-8. The only other division this tough is the AFC west. The Eagles were in the championship game 4 years in a row, which is not easy in the free agency era. They should have won the Superbowl, if they managed the clock better at the end. The Giants got help on defense, where they were weak. I have some questions about Eli, but they can be solid. It is going to be tough in the East.

66. Both of those divisions are vastly overrated.
I don't see a single team among the AFC West or NFC East winning a Super Bowl. Both divisions are mediocre at best. Every single one of these teams have MAJOR issues. Let's run down the list -

AFC West

KC - No defensive line = no pass rush. No wide receivers that scare anyone.

Denver - Jake Plummer. Cleveland Browns D-Line. I'm not sold on either of them. Plus they have no running game this year.

San Diego - Much as I do think Phillip Rivers is going to be a star, it ain't gonna be this year. Not to mention that he's getting no help from his wide outs. Plus their secondary is still weak.

Oakland - :rofl::rofl::rofl:

NFC East

NY Giants - Maybe the best team of the eight, but Tiki's odometer is approaching Curtis Martin range, and you never know when total collapse is going to happen when RBs reach that area. Eli might be the worst non-challenged starting QB in the NFL, and the stats back it up. (http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/insider/columns/story?columnist=joyner_kc&id=2528493 - Link for ESPN Insider members)

Washington Redskins - Relying way, way too much on Mark Brunelle, whom never really got it done when he was young and healthy. Much has been made about their WR free agent acquisitions, but they all pretty much play the same WR position. In other words:
lots of speedsters + guy who can't get the ball to them - guy who can make a tough catch over the middle = continued woefulness on offense.

Dallas Cowboys - TO is good and all, but lead-foot Drew is going to have serious problems getting him the football while he's on his back. Their already weak offensive line got worse, and when you have a quarterback as immobile as Drew Bledsoe, that's a problem (trust me, I'm a Patriots fan. I've been down that road.)

Philadelphia Eagles - I think they'll be better than most people say, but in no way do I see them sniffing the Super Bowl.

The NFC East is clearly better in my eyes, mostly because these teams are playing good defense. Still, the NFC being the patsy conference that it is, those defensive numbers are inflated by good ol' offensive incompetence by the rest of the teams.

17. The Chiefs will probably go 9-7.
We do have Larry Johnson, but we lost the best blocking fullback in the league, Tony Richardson to the Vikings. Our recieving corps is suspect and our defense is promising, but untested. I think our new coach, Herman Edwards will do okay this first year, but I don't think we have what it takes to make the playoffs.

21. The Giants are predicted to be really, really good
by everyone I've seen. I'd be surprised if they're not picked by virtually everyone to win the division. Some will even pick them to win it all.

This actually scares me. The Giants have a history of being at their best when they are supposed to be awful and their worst when they're supposed to be good. Time will tell.

And your Eagles? If they finish 9-7, Reid should get Coach of the Year.

The Eagles got to the playoffs without T.O., and advanced to the Super Bowl without him. The Eagles have some young talent, including Reggie Brown at receiver and some draft picks on the lines. There is more depth on the lines than before, so not all the pressure is on the young players. I think last year was an off year without McNabb and with the T.O. situation. I don't think Reid is the genius some make him out to be (too many stupid mistakes and stubborn game plans,) but with a healthy McNabb, I see a decent year.

I think the Redskins depend on Brunell too much (can't win as easily anymore with a mediocre quarterback,) but they could be good. I still have a soft spot for the Skins from my childhood. Anyone in the East could come out on top.

I'm signing off for the night. :hi:

55. The Cowboys will make the playoffs, then
TO will have a nervous breakdown because he can't handle being talked to that way anymore by Drew Bledsoe.

Then, Parcells will look for a free agent, (me - in my dreams) to take his place.

I will look Drew in the eye, and he will fall in love with me. He will then throw a pass in overtime to me in the endzone. I will make a move to get away from the cornerback, and another move to get away from the safety.

I'll look back..........and............fall down.

Bad guys get the ball and throw a 79 yard TD pass.

Game over.

I will still have my false memories though.
