Do You Ever Get Tongue Tied for No Reason?

I can converse as well as anyone, but at times the words coming out of my mouth have no connection to the thoughts in my head. Today, it took forever - probably 15 sentences - to explain what I was asking when it should have taken 4 or 5 words at most.

I have no idea why at times I get hit with this inability to speak. I'm damn good at gibberish.

You? Any particular situations that make you tongue-tied and twisted, just an earth bound misfit?

I forget totally random easy words.. it's crazy.. I know what I want to say I just forget them.

4. Could be an "age" thing.

Not old age.
The older I get, the more I run through in my head what I'm gonna say before I say it.
I'm dead serious.
I phrase things (mentally) to see if I'm getting across what I mean to say. I edit. I cut, but sometimes I elaborate and expand.
It seems to help in getting my point across.

7. The reason is that I get nervous and didn't talk much as a kid

I converse more easily in writing than I do in person if I do not know the person well. This has always been the case since I could write most of my vocabulary well, which was around seven. I learned to be able to talk to strangers and be able to give long impromptu comments in front of the class in college. There were at least two presentations, though, that I totally messed up because I got nervous and grew more nervous as I had trouble saying what I needed to say. Even though, I generally became more comfortable with my talking abilities, those instances and any others that I get overly nervous in, I have a hard time speaking. I do not think this is odd because it had always been the case when I was younger. I always had to mentally reherse things before talking when I was younger.
