I need some mad good vibes from DU tonight..chem final tomorrow @ 9 AM!
Sorry for the vanity thread, but as I type this, I'm battling the flu (I have no luck) and hybrid orbitals. I'm exhausted, and I'm nervous. I love chemistry, but I don't test well on it sometimes. Prior to the third test, I had a strong B in the class, but because of 2 damn questions on the last exam (worth 15 points each, no partial credit possible), my grade is now a low C/high D. I'm nervous as hell because now the professor has decided to make it a MULTIPLE CHOICE TEST- and I SUCK at those. I mean, really suck.
So DUers, lend me your good vibes!! This tired college student needs it!!

6. I'll lend you good vibes if you lend me good vibes
I have an exam tomorrow for my course on the interstellar medium.

We'll both kick ass, don't worry.

Things I do that might help you:

-listen to classical music before the exam. I find it helps to clear my mind.
-do some example problems immediately before the exam, if you can. It sounds cheesy, but a mental warmup helps

good luck!

7. Those are both common study tactics I use
And they do work.
My problem is, I KNOW and UNDERSTAND all this shit...I'm just bad at 1)mindless computations under stressful conditions 2)MC choice tests
Bad combo...

8. No partial credit????
That professor should be sued for malpractice. I always give partial credit on all my exams (I am such a softie). Good luck! :-)

10. It was electron configuration
1s2, 2sp shit like that. I swear to god he said NOT TO MEMORIZE THE ORDER OF BUILDING UP ELECTRON CONFIGURATIONS, so I didn't. You can read it off the periodic table- which in that test he left off :eyes:
Then when the question said "write the election configuration of an element w/38 electons..." well, you're fucked and can't show anything that you know what the hell you know. It pissed me off because, once again, I know the subject and can do it fine outside of a test...I just choked, Red Sox style :D

12. There is a nice mnemonic for how shells fill in a multielectron atom
that the prof should have taught you so you don't have to memorize the order. Works like a charm.
