This Months Most Underrated Actor (male) Thread
Tonight my vote goes to Scottish actor Brian Cox.

Born in 1946, the son of Irish immigrants, and educated at LAMDA, he's an actor with an incredibly broad range. He started in classical theatre, then branched out into film and television.

His first film role was playing Trotsky in Nicholas and Alexandra. He played Dr. Hannibal Lechter before Anthony Hopkins in the movie Manhunter, then went on to be strongly featured in Rob Roy, Braveheart, The Boxer (with Daniel Day Lewis), Rushmore, The Minus Man, Super Troopers (brilliantly playing the state police captian), The Bourne Identity, The Rookie, Adaptation, X-Men2 and The Ring.

He's the best actor you've never heard of.

Who's your favorite underrated actor?

3. He used to my favorite
But he's pretty exposed now after winning the Emmy and getting nominated for an Oscar. I still love him though (and his wife, Felicity Huffman - talk about an underrated actress!).

5. Harold Perrineau, Jr
Matrix Reloaded and Revolution (Link), Romeo + Juliet (Mercutio), Oz (Augustus Hill). Lots of tv and a few other Shakespearean roles.

Strong, natural presence, with a confident, formal speaking voice. He was easily the best part of Baz Lurhmann's Romeo + Juliet.

15. Was Brian Cox in "Hidden Agenda"?
If it's who I'm thinking of he gave a very powerful performance in that film, too.

18. Brian Cox has been in EVERYTHING...
...including some of my favorites, like:

Adaptation. (2002) .... Robert McKee
L.I.E. (2001) .... Big John Harrigan
Minus Man, The (1999) .... Doug Durwin
Rushmore (1998) .... Dr. Nelson Guggenheim
Braveheart (1995) .... Argyle Wallace

God, the guy was in X2, 25th Hour, The Ring, The Bourne Identity, and he was Hannibal Lecter in Manhunter. He's seriously underrated. And, incidentally, I think The Minus Man is also a very underrated movie. Check it out if you haven't seen it.

He was a great character actor. Some of his films include:

The Grifters
Pleasantville
House of Games
Sling Blade
Nixon
A Few Good Men

He died too young in 1998.

21. Spader
I can't take my eyes off of him, whenever he's on either the big or little screen.

The only other actor that has this effect on me is Spacey, but I don't think that KS qualifies for the "underrated" label.
