Not what do you wish it was, but what was it, really?

The first mp3 I ever heard come out of decent speakers (and I qualify it thusly, because until then I had no idea it sounded any better than anything else) was Green Day's "Hitchin' a Ride". :)

Howsabout youse?

2. Everything But the Girl
"Missing" by EBTG. I had a 486 DX 100 system w/16 MBs of RAM, and didn't have the horsepower to play the song at the speed it was encoded at.

This would have been 1995.

5. Bob Dylan, Just like Tom Thumb's Blues...
I ripped it myself, since that was much faster than downloading anything might have been.

Sweet Melinda, the peasants call her the goddess of gloom...

The first mp3 players were quite compact and fast,
Franhofer-Gesellschaft's winplay3 was about 170K, and if I remember correctly it would work on a 40MHz 386 running Windows 3.1, but not very well in the background.

These days I like to play with Ogg Vorbis:
