23. Another vote for "Dazed"
I haven't smoked home-grown pharmaceuticals in years - I have a professional license to protect - but I remember how fun it was.

Heck, I attended that High School! Mellowing out with a smoke was all that kept me from losing it, and going ballistic during the mandated "Americanism versus Communism" class.

Wizards was another animated movie in the mindset of Heavy Metal (IMHO it was even better than Heavy Metal). It was pretty trippy when you were stoned.

16. A Boy And His Dog
Edited on Thu Dec-18-03 07:56 PM by YNGW
If you've never seen it, you should. It's a sci-fi flick with a very young Don Johnson who has a dog who can communicate with him telepathically. It takes place in a world after a nuclear war, and the dog has a special talent; he can sniff out women (apparently a scarcity after the war). It funny as hell and a great flick.

36. The novella it was made from
Was written by Harlan Ellison. I agree -- it's a great movie, though it never found its market until it became a college underground flick in the late seventies.

My vote (other) is for "Dark Star." The two stoners from "Heavy Metal" must have been based on the whole cast of "Dark Star," and besides that, it's been admitted that the concept for the original "Alien" movie was derived from the alien living on board the ship with the stoner crew in "Dark Star."

19. Donnie Darko...
Second would be Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas...On the list you have, Dazed and Confused comes in a close third...

Followed by Meet the Feebles.. which is just downright twisted. ;)

Super troopers is also pretty decent.

And then, the classic, reefer madness is a good one.

Edited on Thu Dec-18-03 09:46 PM by notmyprez
in the seventies. It sure brought back a lot of memories from my seventies stoner days.

There's one scene where the (high-school-aged) guys are going out, and a bong falls out of someone's pocket. Alec Baldwin plays the father, and the boys tell him that it's a musical instrument--and he believes them!
