LOTR "Return of the King" question- (no spoilers here)
For those that have seen the movie, I was wondering if anyone shares my opinion-
I thought that the Isengard scene at the beginning should have been at the end of The Two Towers, rather than the beginning of this one.
They could have ended TT with Pippen finding the seeing stone, Gandalf taking it from him, and then Gandalf could have done basically the same monologue as the one he did at the end of the TT movie, about how Sauron's wrath being terrible, etc... -anyone else?

as it is...I sure hope we don't have to wait until November for the expanded dvd version of ROTK.

1. no
You don't want to end TTT on that note. It would be ending the movie on a emotional low. You end it with the big battle scene and them looking off into the horizon at Mordor - setting up the third movie.

At least, that's how I would do it. But everyone has their own thoughts. If I was making ROTK I would have cut out the last 30 minutes and ended the movie after Aragorn and the Gondor people bow before the Hobbits.

2. I like that ending....
"I would have cut out the last 30 minutes and ended the movie after Aragorn and the Gondor people bow before the Hobbits."
But for those who have never read it and no prospect of another episode..this closes the story quit nicely. Too bad PJ didn't show Gimly and Lagolis going off to their adventure.

3. I'm sure that'll be in the extended version
I mean, if you can believe the ending can get any longer than it already was. In the extended version I'm sure they'll stretch it out so the last 1/3 of the movie is wrapping all the storylines up.

To those who haven't read it, the rest of the endings are just confusing. Like why Frodo had to leave. And the whole story with the lord of gondor and his son has no meaning without reading the books.

5. emotional low?
Edited on Fri Dec-19-03 11:31 AM by Beaker
Gandalf's speech at the end of the TT was a bit of a downer wasn't it? and it would have worked just as well if he were giving it at the destroyed Isengard.
and how would them finding Merry and Pippin at the ruins of Isengard be an emotional low? it was a pretty light-hearted scene...
Plus- Treebeard, the Ents, & Isengard don't appear at all in ROTK except for that very first scene, and as such seems like left-over business from the TT, IMHO.
also- it would have been a little truer to the books, IIRC.

6. If you want to get technical...
The whole Shelob the spider episode happens in the Two Towers. They put in ROTK because not much happens to Sam and Frodo in that book. It's called pacing.
