A Rant: My company is so friggin cheap
My wife and I are both civil servants

1. Her company, one christmas party, one christmas lunch, and tthey sent her a very nice christmas card. My company one lousy christmas breakfast served by the directors, with the XO noticablly not present, one e-card sent from the XO

2. I am a notary, I do not charge staff or client's although by law I can. Our retirment is switching to another company and the new choices need to be notarized by 12-31-03. My company asks me to help and notarize about 250 choices and they will pay . I am at about 120. I submit a PA on 12-15-03 requesting reimbursemet so it will help with Christmas. The answer is, nope not till after 12/1/04.

HO HO HO said the evil XO

DDQM

This would contain alot of cursing but I decided to clean up my language here in DU land.

2. Now, THAT's frigging cheap!
And here I was bit..I mean, complaining (I want to watch my language here, also)...about our office not having a Christmas party this year. Not in the budget, says the powers that be.

I'm sorry about your circumstances, guy.

3. Screw Christmas parties. Seriously, how many DUers here want to
"party" with the knuckleheads they work with?

5. Yeah, and they probably cut out...
the executive Christmas bonuses too, right? (sarcasm off). I would love to see something like the scene from Christmas Vacation take place this year, I even have the brother-in-law for it.

8. What's a Christmas bonus?
I have never, in my years of working, had a Christmas bonus. Never.

I liked the Christmas Vacation movie. :-)

10. More proof that it's a "false recovery"
on the economic front. Artifical stimulants like the tax cuts are a temporary blip. No new jobs. Losing current jobs. No raises or promotions. And the sad state of our benefits. Face it. Unless you're a CEO Bushie, these days are rather bleak. I hate to sound like an old-timer, but when I got out of college, we had so much more. Better healthcare coverage (vision and dental), yearly rate of inflation raises for everyone plus annual merit raises, Christmas bonuses, and more sick/personal/vacation time. We're going backwards.

12. Um, you won't get paid until WHEN?
You said 12/1/04. Please tell you don't have to wait a year to get paid for this.

15. We don't get parties or cards or bonuses here, either
although some folks do a potluck - I think they're about to start it, in fact. I don't do potlucks, since I don't cook and I don't like most of the food.

The first few years I was at Boeing, there were big lavish Xmas lunches that no one came back from, they used to hold a huge party in the Kingdome, and there were generous bonuses. By the time I left Boeing (after 20 years), you were lucky to get a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. People worked until 5 p.m. on the 23rd. But they WERE still giving the week between Xmas and New Years' off as paid holiday. I miss that. It's probably the only thing I DO miss about Boeing.

16. My company had a party yesterday.
Notice on the bulletin board said Xmas music and finger food. Big deal! I wasn't there because I am using up vacation time, which if I don't take I will lose. Plus I knew there wouldn't be any Xmas bonuses handed out. And I this is a multi-billion-dollar corporation.

17. My company is cheap too but
We did get a catered Christmas lunch in the break room with a full half hour break, instead of a 15 minute break as usual. We don't get a Christmas party though. We got Christams bonus checks with mine being $450. Although when we complained about not getting paid sick days, we were told that is a sacrafice we make for getting a bonus.
