DAMN! Mechanical malfunction AGAIN!!
I'm in a motel in Georgetown, KY with some kind of
malfunction that causes diesel fuel to dilute the engine
oil. Engine tech says "just a simple injector replacement".

In the old days, before the current emission regs, a "simple
injector" problem would've been just that. Now, they gotta take
into account EGR ratios, etc.

Not that I'm bitching about the regs, but the way the goddamned
engine maker complied. Cummins and Cat complied W/O EGR.
Detroit Diesel SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, I feel much better now.

:)

3. I haven't the faintest idea what any of that means, but I deduce that it's
bad, so you have my sympathy...

So, what's the best thing about Georgetown, KY?

9. EGR is exhaust gas recirculating
Like the smog pump on your car. Sends exhaust back to
the intake to be remixed with the fuel/air and reburned.

Works well on a gas engine. Diesel?? The jury's still out.

Best thing about Gerorgetown is the beautiful views and
the Toyota plant.

8. You think YOU have problems
My air conditioner gave out on me in the middle of the Texas heat wave. I didn't have the bucks at the time, so I drove on, hoping the clutch wouldn't shatter and poke a hole in my engine. One fine morning it simply froze up and that was that- I couldn't even turn the engine on.

The GOOD news- I happened to see a client the same afternoon (I have access to another vehicle) and I found out she is good friends with the owner of a local car salvage operation. She called him, he called me, and I got a factory new compressor assembly along with all the hoses and parts, including a new serpentine belt, for a grand total of $340 installed. This is an eleven hundred buck job, BTW.

Cool- literally. The next day it was done, and I had cold air again.

The BAD news- two days later my transmission fried. Stuck again. The GOOD news- I made another call, and my car is back at the salvage shop right now getting a replacement transmission. Total cost- $400. This also is over a thousand bucks worth of parts and work!

The moral of this true story- it pays to be nice to your clients. It pays dividends you'll never know about until things hit you in the face!

12. All too true, my friend
In a company vehicle, I pick up the cell and say
basically "it's broke, fix it". And they do.

Pain in the ass? You bet(oh f*** I sound like Rummy)

Yes, treat your clients well. Experience, here, but
that's another thread.

14. My problem is, I AM the company.
That's the part of being self-employed that sucks.
