Bob Dylan's new album, Modern Times, kicks ass

It's not quite as good as Love and Theft, but it's still freaking awesome. The man's renaissance since Time Out of Mind has been positively joyous to behold.

1. What's the voice sound like?

I don't distrust you, but the last two times I saw him in concert, the croaking made me miserable.

I know he usually does better on albums.

yeah, they clean it up a lot for the albums. But I still love live, just for the privilege of seeing the guy

6. Yeah, I know what you mean.

I was moved at several points during the last concert, even though I had crummy seats. But I've had enough. He's still got some voice there, but insists on murdering his old songs. I guess four times is enough anyway. Best time was at Wolf Trap with Kris Kristofferson, who was brilliant, opening. I think Dylan had most of Tom Petty's band with him that time around.

15. Saw him with The Band in Washington, DC around 1973.

Unforgettable. Had good seats. I took some nice B&W shots with a good camera and fast film.

RIP Richard Manuel and Rick Danko.

Watching Dylan work with Robertson, Danko and all those guys was a real treat. And the performance was primo.

I think the "Before The Flood" live album is a good one. Haven't listened to it in a long time, but anything with Dylan and The Band together is a treasure, IMO.

3. His voice was embarrasing

When I saw him a year ago. I couldn't even figure out what songs he was singing. Overheard something funny in the bathroom after the concert: "How come he played that Hendrix tune, man?" (All along the Watchtower) Thought that was pretty amusing.

After all these years, he's become my favorite musical artist. He might not be my favorite singer, or songwriter, or performer......but when I consider the whole package, past and present.....

He's the best.

Paul Simon grew up in Queens. Or Manhattan maybe. Art Garfunkle, too I believe. Their early work together was in part a celebration of what it's like for a young person to live in NYC. Had zilch to do with the suburbs.

Can you give an example of some early Dylan that you consider precocious?

773 tracks, all the studio and live albums, plus 42 rarities and a 100 page book. All for $199.

Not a bad deal, except anyone who would buy it probably already has a lot of Dylan, and you get no physical product, and it's up to you to back it up to a DVD or something.

Glad to hear the new album lives up to the reviews... Bob roolz!
