I finally saw V for Vendetta...
Holy Cow. That's a great movie. I guess I can say this because I never read the comic book. Yes, I know the creator of the comic book has problems with the movie version but, Holy Crap. It got me and MrG talking... How far would we sit on the couch, watching events happen? Would we let them take our neighbors, our friends away? Would we live in fear? Are we already?

Great movie. I'm sorry I didn't see it sooner when it was a "Topic Du Jo ur" around here.

3. That's on my list for my weekend viewing. Thanks for the review.
Edited on Fri Sep-01-06 09:21 PM by mohinoaklawnillinois
I haven't been near a video store in more than a month. From July 29th through last Saturday we had 4 weddings to go to. The only Saturday night we had "off" was August 19th and even that night we had plans with friends...

I am so looking forward to doing absolutely nothing this weekend but vegging out on the couch and watching DVD's.

Mrs. G just wondering, how's Daddy G doing????

My Daddy is doing so very good! Thanks for asking. He's back at work and the first scans are coming back clear. I really appreciate all of the good vibes from DUers and everyone's thoughts. I believe they worked. :hi:

4. I bought it and gave it out for my neighbors to see just like I did with

F-911.

I plan on wearing the costume when the tricker- treaters come to my house with their parents.
A great movie but I would suggest watching it with english subtitles it enhances the script and dialogue one would miss.

6. ditto
about the subtitles, I had subtitles on from the get go, the dialogue is very...streamlined, and I didn't want to miss 1 thing anybody was saying, so I changed to sub titles immediately...;)

Yes it did make a difference with the sub-titles, I viewed it first without and was enchanted by the movie , the dialogue and the story.

5. I'm sorry I missed it at the theater.
I've got a nice home theater with a front projector and a 7' screen, but the theater would have been great. I have watched V for Vendetta at least 6 times since I got it on dvd. I'm glad you got to see it for it is a great movie. Watch it again because it is hard to catch all of V's dialog.
It is scary to think we could head that way. Guy Fawkes aside, V for Vendetta could have never been made if its setting was here because the neocons would have flipped out.

12. We were talking about that.
I know the creator of the comic book was a bit upset that it had become sort of a narrative of where Bush's world is driving us.

Edited on Fri Sep-01-06 09:43 PM by MrsGrumpy
I cannot remember his exact words (well, I wasn't there) but they were something to the effect of using one's own works to make a political comment on the state of America. I'm going to go with my brother, the screenwriter, director and ex location scout on this one.

22. The artist of the graphic novel not the writer
The writer did not want it changed. So no argument really. The DVD has the artists video comments in the extra dvd companion.

AND THE BOX IS IN 3-D.......

I plan on putting the mask, hat and hair on an empty part of my wall that has a spot, the colors will fit with my Feng Shui thing I got going.....LOL

24. Cool!
I think, as it stands, and given our current situations in both Britain and the U.S., it is a wonderful lesson of what can happen when one gives up too much of one's freedom.

I think the cousins who rented it have thought out that part. They are that way.

:hi:

On edit. These are people that I haven't seen in ages. The cousins whose party I am attending were at their place in Hawaii (poor babies) last winter when my mother died and so could not attend the funeral. Their offspring are scattered around the country. It will be great to see everyone.

29. I wouldn't worry about Alan Moore hating the movie.
Edited on Fri Sep-01-06 09:58 PM by Benfea
Alan Moore hates pretty much everything. That kind of angst makes him a delicious writer, but I wouldn't want to live with the guy.

There were some changes I wasn't crazy about*, but all in all, it was a great movie.

* In the comic book, we never find out if V is horribly scarred or terribly beautiful under his mask. That sort of adds to his mystery.

32. I saw it at the theater, Mrs. Grumpy.... (spoiler alert)
and when Parliament blew up I actually started
CRYING. . . from JOY! or SOMETHING!

I'm not sure WHAT!

And you KNOW I'm a NOT-SO CLOSETED ANGLOPHILE.

It was visual poetry.

Visual poetic justice, if you will.

36. Agreed! (spoiler of sorts as well)
I began to tear up at Evey's final speech because it was so moving, along with the rest of the end. There is something transfixing about the Guy Fawkes mask which actually brings out the dialog of V and gives more meaning to his words, along with the difficulty of acting without being able to show any facial expression.

:boring:

I don't know, I guess they tried to blame Bush over the demise of everything, I think I'd rather watch a documentary about how he's screwing everyone over.

I found Natalie Portman more interesting in Star Wars than in this movie - and that's not saying a whole lot

I liked it well enough, though I think all the BushCo references will wind up dating the movie as it ages.

Equilibrium is still my favorite low-budget dystopian future movie.

I can't remember when a movie has affected me so. Husband and I sat there stunned at the end and silent. I hope every one views it , I am recomending to all. Maybe we should all get a mask and cape and march on DC Nov 4!
