Until last night, I'd never left a concert early
And scanning the front page I'm sure WritingIsMyReligion and others will be surprised to hear who the lucky first band was...

Steely Dan

This wasn't the first time I'd seen them either. But it was the most disappointing show I've ever been to. Ask me anything,I guess.

2. They were boring
They had a great band with them and they were technically very pure but it was too clean and antiseptic. I'm no music critic but it came across as very cold and without any emotion. The lost a lot of people about halfway through the set. And they played some good songs too.... Show Biz Kids, Aja, Home at Last, Green Earrings, Black Friday, Bodhisattva.

3. I think I know what you mean.
SD was good "in its day." I don't listen to them any more.

4. uh now you know why they never toured when they first started cranking
out the hits back in the 70's.

Yep.

They're still boring.

And apparently they haven't invested wisely if they're out "on tour"... didn't spend that hard earned cash very well is my guess when I see these old farts out "on the road", ahem.

Nothing worse than seeing old fat has-been rock stars strapping on the leather pants and trying to rock n roll while doing bad comb overs and using grecian formula and penciling in the eyebrows.

And the dunlaps. Damn it the dunlaps. It's wrong I tell you, wrong.

I was in the rock and roll business for YEARS. Honey, I'm too old to be doing it anymore and I actually still look GREAT... please... I wish the old rockers would stay home and let us remember them the way they were when they were HOT.

The ONLY rocker who has stood the test of time looks-wise is Robin Zander of Cheap Trick.

Hot DAMN.

He's still got it.

6. They were awful. It was sad.
It was all very slick but there was no feeling behind it.

7. i left a steely dan concert early also
nothing against steely dan but jeez, it was a casino comp and i have a casino patron's attention span

i expect a 60 or 90 minute concert, not a 3 hr concert so we slipped out at the intermission

guys we love you to death but you DON'T have to play every song ya ever wrote, leave the crowd wanting more ESP. in a casino venue

9. a sit-down concert?
Steely Dan is not sit - and - listen to music -- it's dance music, or background music, or stuff like that. I loved them way back when, and I "THINK" I still do, but ya gotta be in the mood to hear them.

I would be thrilled to see them even as has-beens.

10. yes at mandalay bay
this may have been part of the issue

they were technically brilliant but this type of music to me is music in the background of the bar where you're having some intense intellectual conversation and drinking too much martini

not in the mandalay bay arena where there's a zillion other VIPs (hey you thought you were special bunky, get outta here) with a few coupons for some questionable free beer

my escort was a music geek so i thought we were there for the duration but even he decided to make a break for it at the intermission
