NEED a used Yamaha or Selmer TENOR sax...
bought my daughter a "new" knock off and it hasn't even lasted the year. I can not afford a real new one. If your children have given up the music, I would love to buy a used TENOR sax in decent shape

have been outbid on EBAY the last 6 instruments

anyone have one for sale?

5. He is a musician, so he'd know quality and tone.
He's out of town at his cabin but I'll post a question to him. :-)

3. Saxes are expensive! Not telling you anything you don't already know.

Re-padding them costs a fortune!

I have a 30 year old hardly ever used alto sax. I think it's a Vito...but that does you no good.

Cool that your daughter plays the sax.

4. Maybe an idea
Have you tried pawn shops?

My daughter plays the sax and we were able to get it on payments.
We were lucky to find an independent music store - the owner of the business valued a child's music experience more than the mighty dollar.

Don't give up.

6. Considered renting instead?
Most music stores offer plans where you can rent an instrument (new or used) with the option of purchasing it when the contract is up. Yeah, you pay a finance charge; but at least you don't have to have the full amount up front.

Where are you located? I can probably find a music store near you that does this...

7. Jeez, what's she doing with them... driving nails?
I've never heard of anybody "wearing out" a saxomophone.

11. yup, never buy a knock off
I bought a "selmen" which is a copy of SELMER and the local repair shop won't even touch it...says NEVER buy knockoffs they are junk

she is getting good, and now is very discouraged

the local store rents altos, of which she has a nice one, but not tenors and my daughter is really good on the Tenor but has lost her conficence on the alto

will probably check out the pawn shops again, but currently none available

10. I was shocked at the price for even a decent used sax
I used to play saxophone in high school, I had a King alto sax. Quite some time ago I donated it to my high school because it was only taking up space in my closet. Recently, I have been considering taking it up again. I remember the instrument pretty well. When I went to various sites on the WWW I freaked at the prices for a new instrument. And I am NOT talking about a professional grade instrument, for just one of those pro grade saxophones I could buy 3 high
quality guitars.
Good luck in finding an instrument!
