I know it's an off-season sport for some roadies, but there's a lot of stuff about races, ads from suppliers of 'cross gear, pix of people in muddy spandex, and the like.

Is it reall that huge?

1. Yeah, I think so.
I know a couple of cross racers, and in talking to them I've come to realize that there's a fairly significant cyclocross scene that has arisen in the US. I think it's particularly big in New England, and maybe the Pacific NW too.

So -- my hundredth post. Well, cool -- I love bike racing.

I like bike racing, too. I used to live near Major Taylor so I would catch some track racing on occassion.

From what I've seen I think 'Cross is a young person's sport. Not for "Old guys who get FAT in the Winter"....

I gotta get one of those jerseys, cause ya know, if the shoe fits...

Yeah, I also think cross is for the young ones. The 2 guys I know who race cross are both real young (and STRONG). I think that in order to do it right you have to not mind getting mud in your teeth and scraping up your shins with your pedals and tearing your calves up with the sticks you kick up, etc. And... that's COLD mud, to boot!
