Here's the dealie...

I'm a full-time grad student and I work at a bar 3 nights a week. We had a party at the owner's house yesterday. They're planning opening a new club on Tuesday. Yesterday, at the party, one of the owners said to me, "Oh and by the way, we need you all to be at the new club tomorrow (labor day). The DJs want to meet everybody." I'm not scheduled to work on Mondays and I'll only be at the new club on Tuesday nights--and I've already met the DJ for that night. And WTF do I need to meet the DJ anyway-- I bar-back? :wtf: I didn't say anything to the owner at the time, but the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. They're not ready for the club to open and they want our help off the clock.

It's labor day. I've got reading to do and a paper to write for tomorrow. Since Thursday, I haven't spent more than 2hrs with my spousal unit. It's my damn scheduled day off! Should I show up for this little "meeting" or no?

fuck that, they're exploiting your good nature. a bar owner often has a good game and can hustle. don't let anyone get over on you. people like that will push and probe to see what they can get away with. don't let them.

3. they're really good at hustling for extra work out of us

They play up the "we consider you part of our family" crap, invitations to parties etc, and then they expect free work out of us when they screw up. This new club thing will either be a huge success or a huge fuck up. I'm sick and tired of trying to stay out of their family problems too. It's a family run operation and they're constantly bitching and backstabbing each other and they want me to take sides (which I won't). It's becoming a pain the ass. Now I know why other people have quit on them.
