The Greatest Week in Rock History (Salon)
"Thirty-four years ago this week, the Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, Temptations, Santana, Crosby Stills and Nash, and Creedence Clearwater all shared top billing on the Billboard album chart. There's never been another lineup quite like it -- and there will never be again."

1. That's why when it comes to music I am so glad I grew up when I did.

2. I think it's amazing that CCR
put out three of the greatest albums of all time on one year (1969, "Bayou Country," "Green River," "Willy and the Poor Boys,")

And now if an artist does one album every two years he's considerd prolific.

What's up with that?

4. It's even more amazing considering the competition that year.
CCR remains one of my all-time favorites ... almost unmatched in tuning in to the comtemporary sociopolitical culture. As a leading-edge boomer, I applaud pop-music-as-politics and lament its decline.

3. From those great bands, to...
Outkast, Kelis, Ludacris, Alicia Keys, Three Doors Down, and Jagged Edge . How far down have we sunk? So far, far, far down.

Thanks for the reminder of better days when music was still art, before it was coopted into a corporate marketing commodity.

6. No there isn't...
But you gotta admit Outkast is a HUGE step down from Zeppelin or CCR.

7. there is a lot of great music out now..
you're just not going to hear it on the radio. I like to remind my friends who roll their eyes at the music that I enjoy that if they had been born 20 years earlier, they would be saying the same things about all the great bands of the 60s and 70s. Sure, Zep and the Beatles are okay, but a HUGE step down from Buddy Holly and Jerry Lee!!
