What is wrong with people?
When tens of thousands, including innocent women and children, are dying for the sake of one groups greed for oil and bizarre desire to hasten the "rapture".

When innocent children are sent off to camps like this and http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/6/10/20406/0177">this.

When it is becoming illegal for kind-hearted people to feed or even give water to homeless people.

When the death of a human being is met with a response of "who gives a f*ck"?.

When this and so much more is happening in the world today, I can't help but wonder What the is wrong with people???

I feel very much like the guy in this video except I don't want to jump off a building. I want to lock myself in my bedroom until the world starts making sense again.

I know technically a bummer post like this belongs in GD, but if I posted it there it would just get a bunch of crude responses so I chose to post it here.

1. Don't feel bad Buffy....
...I was pretty much thinking the same thing, and had to go take a 30 minute guitar break to calm down.

2. I dont' know...
To be honest, I'm sure there are 1, to a million reasons why people act, and behave the way they do. I just try to do my best, and I believe thats all than I can possibly do...

5. I try to do that myself
But sometimes it feels like I'm fighting a useless, losing battle.

Hopefully after a good day's sleep I'll feel less morose.

7. Yes
it sure feels like a battle that is useless...but what keeps me going is...their are millions of crack pots on the other side, and if I drop out of the political spectrum, the balance shifts...there is less dissent against the other mindset....and I will not let those ideologies dictate my life...that usually gets a fire under my toes...:)

11. it's not cynical to concede a fact in reality
although humanity has produced an overwhelming amount of good things, there are, sometimes, i think more bad things than good.

on a good day, i think they balance each other out.

but that's one of the bonuses of being a creature with the CAPACITY for reason. you can think about these things and make up your own mind about it.

14. There's a lot wrong with people
and that's kinda the point. We still have to find ways of living with each other, valuing each human life and finding the good things in the people around us while at the same time accepting, or at least dealing with, the things we don't like.

Every time you help someone you're almost never going to like or be able to accept everything about them. But that's just part of being human and you still help them.

But it's probably necessary and good to vent once in a while when there's a particular rise in the craziness and objectionable behavior. ;)

The only serious thing that I would say is "wrong with people" is the apparent general apathy, silence and passive acceptance of the stuff you point out. But perhaps that's your point and yet still that's just another human frailty/failing we have to learn to live with. We can only really be responsible for ourselves.

19. It is easier to grieve for many, than it is for one.
Even Mr Spock lamented on the topic once. (and TOS was the only version of Trek to go into this, amongst many other, aspects of human nature.)

The needs of the many, vs. the needs of the few.

I find it easier to feel anger and sadness for many, than it is for one.

Especially when the one did it out of conscious choice. Not a reaction. Not a move made against his will. He chose to do what he did. He even enjoyed doing it.

At least I'm consistent. The idiot race car driver who killed himself got the same response from me too. For I never found sporting to be a logical endeavor, but that's just me.
