We still have some chipmunks left....
Edited on Tue Sep-05-06 06:42 AM by caty
but the I didn't see the one with the damaged ear that we have been feeding for several years. Of course, he could have died from natural causes or a hawk or eagle could have gotten him. I didn't see any chipmunks the first day we arrived, but the next morning they were there eating the corn we put out for them. I was relieved.

3. They are such cute little pests
you can forgive them for anything.

I've been happy to see chipmunks beginning to appear in my neck of the woods. I've lived her 22 years and it's only in the last 2 or 3 that I've seen them at all.

6. I just learned that
when chipmunks have offspring, and they get old enough to take care of themselves, the parents leave the den and start a new one someplace else. So, they could build a new den near your place at any time.

4. Adorable!
Have you named them?

We had a yard squirrel named Florence for 5 years... then, one day, she just stopped coming
around.

5. No, we haven't really named them.
When we get up every morning we through corn or shelled peanuts on the deck and they come up to eat or store what they can in their cheeks to take back to the den. Sometimes there will be four or five at a time that come to eat. Other times one will come and then chase away any others that come by. If one thinks that there is danger about (a hawk flying over perhaps) it will bark and warn the others to say away. They are certainly fun to watch. That's why I was so upset when our new neighbor shot several with a BB gun last week.
