the board booK.

While looking through the books arriving at my library today, I saw this.

I'm not kidding.

Edited to I hope add an image:

NOTE that this is larger than actual size!

For those unaware, a board book is the little tiny heavy cardboard books for BABIES.

I feel for the innocent babies forced into this dreck.

I'm really having a dilemma about this. It wouldn't matter if it were about JFK, even. (Well, yeah, it would). But geez. Those poor kids.

I. Just. Can't. I want to, I really do, but...

17. Just don't put it in the children's section.
I'd have no problem putting it with the adult biographies. It's probably just the right speed for some of the adults who believe Reagan is a saint. You can put it somewhere between Dinesh D'Souza's Ronald Reagan: How an Ordinary Man Became an Extraordinary Leader and Richard Reeve's President Reagan: The Triumph of Imagination.

19. Imagine the liberal version of this board book
"The Democrats threw all the men who helped Our Great President in jail. Men like the brave colonel Oliver North, whose only crimes were arming our worst enemies then buying cocaine with the money from selling the Iranians the missiles, and selling the cocaine to little children in the United States to make more money so he could buy guns for the Contra rebels in Nicaragua. Our Great President signed this law called the Boland Amendment that said he couldn't help the Contras, but he had his fingers crossed really tight behind his back when he did it so it's okay."

"The Democrats hated Our Great President because they said he used to sleep through very important meetings. Well shit, kids, Ronald Reagan was older than dirt. What the hell did they expect?"

"Our Great President had a problem. He needed to give more money to the school lunch program so girls and boys wouldn't be hungry, but he used up all the money giving rich people a tax cut. To keep the children from being hungry, he declared ketchup to be a vegetable. Ketchup is really yummy, but it's not a vegetable like corn or green beans, so the evil Democrats complained about Our Great President's decision. What the evil Democrats didn't know was that Our Great President was a vegetable too."

Yes, it's "All About Our Great President Ronald Reagan." Text by Bob Boudelang with illustrations by Bruce Yurgil, Symbolman, American Stranger and Eric Blumrich.

Ignore the thousands of people Reagan killed in central America, kiddies! Pretend not to notice his direct assault on the constitution! Pay no heed to those America-hating people who point out that more of his administration went to jail than any other presidency, including Nixon and Dubya.

Reagan was a great man! Yay for Ronnie!

29. Hi Kids.... The reason your parents are broke is because
of me and my blind belief that the free market would make us all rich and white and christian...

And the reason the moral fabric of this country is so torn and tattered is because I was one of the biggest hypocrites to ever take a seat in the oval office...

You know what hypocrite is don't you...

It's saying one thing while doing another...

Like when I told everyone that I was for a strong moral background...

And then I made up this big story about a Chicago Welfare Queen who was lying to the government so she could get rich off of your daddy and mommy's taxes... It also made all these people who didn't like Black folks to hate them enough to vote for me cause I was gonna stop all that lyin' and cheatin'

Isn't that Ironic now kids... Here I am, tellin' a big old lie about that made up welfare queen in order to get people to vote for me to stop people from lyin' and cheatin' them...

It's enough to make your head spin now isn't it...

Well, I liked to say well alot, of course I didn't mean me with all that morality talk...

'Cause everyone with a lick of sense knew I was bonin' my second wife Nancy while I was still married to my first wife...

(I talk like this 'cause it makes everyone think I have a down home appeal....)

And just so you know kids, that isn't a stick figure over there in the corner, that is Nancy... (When I mean bone her, I mean BONE her.... He He HE.....)

And I talked about standing up to terrorists, just like that fella in the oval office does now, I meant the one's I could pretend were terrorist, you know innocent people like the peace loving and happy go lucky natives in Grenada...

You see were were attacked by those guys called Hezbulla....

They bombed our troops over there in Beruit...

Over 240 men were killed that day...

Why I remember being so outraged by that I pulled the troops right out of there and let that country fall into a twenty year or so Civil War...

That's how you stand up to terrorists kids...

Well, see I told you I liked to say Well alot, it's getting late and time for my nap...

Remember kids, take a nap when your mommy tells you 'cause then you can grow up to be president just like me...

Only you would have to be a man, white and gosh darn it really really rich or willing to sell your soul....

Just like me...

32. Sadly, those who demand that books be pulled don't get that part.
My boss (who handles these things and is a major-league pro at it) once pointed out to an angered patron that if we removed the Wiccan collection we would pretty much have to purge the Bibles and accompanying literature, as well as the catechism, kabbalah, etc.

Her objection was that there were spells in the Wiccan books; she couldn't get that there are many rituals in most spiritual literature.

She didn't get the connection; all I saw was a blank stare.

We of course stood our ground and eventually Ms. Priss gave up; she wasn't the type to force the issue at city council or the like.
