I just got a call from my youngest child. She just turned 21 last month. She works and goes to school about 3 1/2hrs from home. A few months ago the brother of her best friend and her friend too had a terrible accident. While her friend Justin was playing Football for UW Eau Claire he substained a hit to the helmet and while going off field to the sidelines he collaped and when into a coma. He was rushed to the area hospital and then flighted out to St. Paul where he had emergency surgery for a blood clot to the brain. Now several months later he has had numerous surgerys and complications. He had part of his skull removed to allow for swelling and other reasons I am unsure of. This was a strong and vital 23 yr old. Yesterday was the first time my daughter had been able to bring herself to go see him. I tried encouraging her earlier but she was scared and I do understand how hard it is to see some you care about in such bad shape. Even though she prepared herself for the worst, reality up close and personal is never the same. She called me up today to tell me of the time she spent with him and the first thing she said to me was that as soon as she saw her brother, whom she has been fighting with since thanksgiving, that she would no longer be fighting with him because she wasn't going to waste time on stupid crap. She realized today that life happens in instances and what was today may not be tomorrow. While she was there visiting Justin suffered a grand Mal seizure and has to undergo more surgery today. My heart goes out to Justin who has always been such a good kid and his family and especially his mother who has been at his side since this happened. This is the season to be thankful for all our blessing no matter how big or small. Life is something that happens and it happens sometimes when we aren't looking and can take us by surprise. This coming year I am making a resolution to always be looking and take nothing for granted and I think my daughter Dale will too. Please say an extra prayer Justin and for others out there could really use our prayers.
