Poll question: Best fair/carnival food?

I've only been to fairs on the East Coast, so I'll include items I've actually seen at fairs. Please feel free to add your own local delicacy! If I get a plurality of one answer, I will add it to the poll, since I still have empty spaces.

Though truth to tell, my go-to food at the fair is teriyaki chicken; not that that's exclusively a fair food item.

10. Scones

Specifically, the raspberry-jam filled wonders sold at the Western Washington State Fair (aka "The Puyallup Fair"). Well worth the long lines. These are the sweetest, meltiest-in-your-mouthiest, puffs of dough and air to ever grace a fair. I bought the mix once and made them at home, but it wasn't quite the same. It needs the atmosphere of rides, animals, skeeball, agricultural products, and hokey kitchen gadget displays to complete the effect. :9

16. I always liked corn dogs from the fair....

....youngred told me once he'd NEVER eaten a corn dog before...I could hardly believe that...they aren't the most healthy things out there though and I wish I'd never tried 'em either sometimes...the FRIED ones from the fair are just BETTER than bakin' 'em in the oven at home LOL!!! :D :crazy:

But yeah those deep fried corn dogs and the mustard they use at the fair MAKE 'em good!! :D

They put mustard in the batter. (It also makes you thirstier so you buy more drinks which are a higher profit item)

Oh, those scones!! Something about that soft consistency, the butter, and the raspberry jam...oh baby. Had to eat at least 3 during the day. They were my mom's favorite too.

Remember the paper dishes of fried cheese they used to have at the International House? Alas, they're gone. You can get little mozarella sticks elsewhere at the fair, but they're breaded and very tiny, like you'd find at Denny's or somesuch. The "old version" of the fried cheese was a small brick of mozarella, dunked in batter, then deep-fried. You could walk around the fair with these foot-long ropes of cheese coming out of crunchy, fish-and-chip style batter--oh, those were the days.

Mind you, you did all this AFTER riding The Rotor. :)

15. The puffed up pastry thing from a couple of year ago

They loaded it with whipped cream and chocolate. They didn't have it last year.
Derby and I shared one, then I went back to get another. The lady told me,
"You know, that's big enough to share." I said, "Yeah. But this one is ALL
MINE!!!"

Unfortunately, I had just gotten a cortisone shot the day before and I can
not even remember everything I ate. Fletcher's corny dogs were definitely
in there - more than once, I'm sure.

Dip it in corn dog batter, deep fry it and charge $4.

ETA: Forgot to add...serve with a small plastic cup of cream of mushroom soup for dipping.

That stuff is delish, and I buy it from the local carnival/fair sponsor, usually a volunteer fire department. I like to give my money locally, + I think they are more likely to have fresher meat. I don't want food poisoning. :scared:

I can't eat the fried stuff because they only change the oil in their fryers once/century, and I CANNOT STAND old oil! Yuck.

Hmmm...do I seem like a picky eater? :shrug:

62. Oh man...just went to the Minnesota State Fair last weekend, and had

so much good food...
The nut rolls are really good, as are the beef/wild rice hamburgers. Elk burgers good too. Ginger beer. Fudge puppies. Egg rolls. Jerk chicken. Pulled pork barbecue. Frozen cheesecake dipped in chocolate on a stick. Ditto Key Lime Pie.
It's all good!
