1. No, I got hand me downs
My mother was big on 'sister dresses' so I'd wear the same dress for four years.....

But, I also got new clothes of my own every year too -- that fit.

2. Oh yeah, and then we put lots of patches on the knees
to keep them around long past their ordinary useful life. I had patches on my patches.

3. I still haven't "grown into" my Jr High school jacket.
I guess my mom figured that between 7-9th grades, I'd grow three feet and gain 200 pounds.

4. Yes. As the oldest of three children, I got the "you can grow into these"
clothes. My sister got the hand-me-downs and was thrilled about them, because we were the coolest, hippest kids on our street, and our mom bought us and made us groovy clothes. B-) My brother, on the other hand, also got "grow into" clothes, because he was the only boy.

5. Sometimes yes
My mom would sometimes buy clothing on sale at the end of the year a size or two larger so that I would have it for the next year. The problem was that when she pulled said item out the next year and looked at it again she usually shuddered and said that she couldn't believe she had bought something so ugly. When I got a little more savvy and she would try to do it, I'd remind her that there was a reason the stuff hadn't sold in the first place and was around to be bought at the end of the season.

I do some of that now with my daughter, I will confess. Of course, she's 4 and whatever I buy for her at the beginning of a season, if I don't get it a size larger, is toast midway through.

6. YES, did you think the rolled-up levis were a fashion statement
in the 50's and 60's.
My mother made some of my shirts, I gave hand-me downs as My older brother was way to big to pass clothes on to me, but my two younger brothers fit into my used clothing!

7. My jean cuffs were up to my knees. And suspenders to keep them
from falling down.

9. No. I got hand-me-downs from my older sisters, but....
mostly my mother had to make my clothes for a custom fit, right up until I bought my first pair of Gloria Vanderbilt jeans at age 14.

11. I grew one foot over one summer
and I don't think they could have anticipated that kind of growth anyway. :)

And yes, it was painful.

15. What did you do with three feet?
Did you have to buy two pairs of shoes and toss out the extra shoe? Was it a right or left foot that you grew?

12. Even worse
I got hand me ups from my fat brother. By the time I got his clothes the sleeves and pants legs were too short for me and the waists were still too roomy.

Man, am I glad I don't have to wear his old, worn out clothes any more.

16. Yes, though most of my clothes were hand-me-downs
My sister is six years older than me, so my clothes were always six years out of date. :P
