Today I start Coaching Soccer!
It has been a long road from chess club, math club,.. for this geek to now be coaching little girls in how to play soccer!

But now here I am about to embark on an adventure...a bunch of little girls, a practice plan (I made it all myself)...and I am sure...Loads of Energy!

2. keep your hands on your head!
my son played soccer for a few years, and the coach was so positive and encouraging to all the kids. It was really nice.

7. I've heard parents yelling at their kids
when I've seen it being played in the park here, that's why I prefer the Boys and Girls Club version.

6. If you're gonna do this,
strive to be a great coach, not just an ordinary coach.

SKILLS SKILLS SKILLS

1. Dribbling and all associated subparts( inside the foot, outside the foot, laces, cutting, pulling back,, cruyff turns, circling)

2. Passing (square, push, outside foot, lifting, switching, negative)

3. Trapping

4. Heading (when they are big enough)

and equally important

5 Positioning. ( triangulation, rotation, overlaps, responsibility) I totally disagree with coaches who think little little kids can't be taught positioning, and let let them run around wild. True, some kids won't get it. But it's surprising how many do. And you and them will heased toward way more success and fun.

6. FUN (do drills to make all the above fun when they are young)

If you're not a soccer-head (meaning someone who's played a lot or watched games on TV or in person all their life), start doing so now and get Fox Soccer Channel and Gol TV. You'll be a way better coach

8. What age?
I coach 5-7 year olds.

I'm not that great but I make sure they have a good time. We don't worry about the score, we practice good sportsmanship and we try our best. To me that's all that counts.
