Anyone here ever done a degree in a field they know back and front?
I have what you yanks call an associate degree in Journalism. With that, I've gotten fairly far, farther than most of the people who taught my course. But, I need a degree or it's gonna bite my ass in the future. I've been wanting to go get one for about two years. And think I may be able to pull it off. But, I was looking at the required courses for the Journalism undergrad degree in Vancouver and I could do most of it in my sleep. So, I'm wondering if it's worth it. The only reason I'm looking at a bachelor in journalism is because with my associate degree I can do it in two years.
Any advice?

1. Two years? They'll fly by before you know it. It can only be a good
experience. Higher education is where its at. After you get your bachelors, go get a masters.

2. That's why I wanna go for this degree
If I'm gonna spend four years in school.... may as well get a degree and a masters instead of just and undergrad.
But, I don't know that I wanna take two years off for school. I'm already basically where I want to be with my career anyway.

3. I have a BS in Radio-TV-Film...
DEFINITELY worth it. Worked five years in the industry.

I now have an MA in Mass Comm. and am looking toward a doctorate.

4. Get another bachelor's
I think you'd be better off getting your bachelor's in a field related to what you like to cover (such as a business degree, if you want to write about business). It'd probably take longer, but help you more. I wish that's what I had done.

5. And that's advice I get often
So I think it's sound. But I still think, if I wanna go to school for four years... why not get the journalism degree and maybe later on get a masters in something else?

6. if you get the undergrad in journalism
definately do something else for the graduate degree as i can see no logical reason to get both in journalism (my undergrad is in journalism, no graduate school yet). IMHO it does not make you a better writer/editor/whatever, so get something in the area you really want to write about

7. I got a BS in Cultural Anthropology, and basically, knew it back and...
...forth. To me, it just freed me to study other things while I was in college. I lived in the library, and read all types of topics of interest. Now, as for actually making a living with my degree, that's a different topic.
