Sooooo... what's your favorite holiday song?
Me, I like my Jingle Bell Rock.

Anyone else?

(Note: to celebrants of holidays other than Chirstmas, are there any Kwanzaa or Hannukah or any other songs you know of? I can play "Dredyl dreydyl" on my flute but that's about it. :))

1. "My Favorite Things", by the Supremes
"This Christmas" by Donny Hathaway comes a close second

2. damnit, now you got the South Park version of "Dredyl" in my head!

I like most holiday music... in small amounts. Love songs from The Messiah and The Nutcracker in large amounts.

10. at the risk of offending...
It's Cartman singing:

"I have a little dreidel, it's small and made of clay.
But I'm not gonna play with it
'cuz dreidel's freaking gay."

and then the chorus:

"Jews.. play stupid games.
Jews... that's why they're lame."

It's awful, yet funny in that South Park-sorta way.

7. Baby, it's cold outside
Only the Lou Rawls-Dianne Reeves version. It smokes! On the classical Christmas music side, gotta be Oh Holy Night. Just thinking it gives me the shivers.

8. I vote for John Coltrane's version of "My Favourite Things".
Or perhaps COltrane's "Greensleeves". Neither is really Xmas music, but they've become considered such...most holiday music leaves me cold; good jazz versions of the holiday standards are about all I can stomach at this time of year.

13. Charles Brown - Please Come Home For Christmas

Bells will be ringing the sad, sad news
Oh what a Christmas to have the blues
My baby's gone I have no friends
To wish me greetings once again

Choirs will be singing "Silent Night"
Christmas carols by candlelight
Please come home for Christmas,
Please come home for Christmas
If not for Christmas, by New Year's night

Friends and relations send salutations
Sure as the stars shine above
For this is Christmas, yes, Christmas my dear
It's the time of year to be with the one you love

So won't you tell me you'll never more roam
Christmas and New Year's will find you home
There'll be no more sorrow, no grief and pain
And I'll be happy, I'll be happy, once again

There'll be no more sorrow, no grief and pain
And I'll be happy, happy Christmas, once again

16. I've got a weakness for the camels harmonizing on "We Three Kings"
I mean the ones that were in a Claymation special back in the 80's. "Star of wonder, star of light . . ." I don't even think of it as a religious song -- it's just very mystical and other-worldly sounding.

Besides, the camels were cute.
