So, recently I have been playing through Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance for the X-Box (yeah, it's old, but it was only 5$).
I had played it long ago, but ran through it super quick as I was borrowing my friends PS2 to play it. That was when it first came out.
Fast-forward to now. (Spoilers, if you care, below)
The game focuses around a secret organization that runs America (and a good chunk of the world apparently) known as "The Patriots". During the game they are also referred to as the “La-li-lu-le-lo”.
I had never heard this term before, so tonight I was bored and decided to do some digging about it. It's actually really interesting. Apparently the Japanese language is referred to as gojūon which translates as "fifty sounds" but is only made up of 45 sounds. The missing sounds are, you guessed it, La, Li, Lu, Le and Lo.
Wikipedia has a fascinating article about it:
hereAnyway, just thought I would share my little bit of learning from a game. :)
Edited to fix glitch in link to wiki article, works ok now.
