Holy smokes, I'm watching an episode now and Diane is apparently an "out" Atheist. Oh and two characters, it was a Christmas episode, sounded like outright Socialists!

Can't say that I've seen anything quite like that on American TV before, have you?

Funny show too.

1. There's a LOT on British TV that you'll never see on American TV
Their political humor and dramas would never pass muster here, especially things like "Yes, Prime Minister" (depicting the government as run by smarmy bureaucrats who care more for appearances than what is right), "House of Cards" (a truly evil man makes it into the prime ministership), and "A Very British Coup" (a genuine Marxist is elected prime minister and soon faces the type of sabotage that Allende faced in Chile).

Then there was a movie on BBCAmerica a couple of months ago (I forget the name) in which an ordinary man suddenly seems to be the second coming of Christ. The ending was definitely on the atheists' side, and I can't imagine anyone, even HBO having the guts to produce something like that. (I'm not an atheist myself, but U.S. media are awfully chicken-hearted in dealing with that issue.)

5. WOW! I just reads reviews for "A Very British Coup" and...WOW!
My local commie video store probably has it. I'm renting it tomorrow.

Thanks!

Oh! Have you ever seen "Oranges Aren't the Only Fruit"? Another brit drama about religious fundamentalism and a young girl that has interest in the same sex.

It's amazing.

2. At various seasons it's a regular feature on Seattle's PBS station.
I'm a long-time fan. Such scathing wit.
