8. I alway find this show to be very informative.

A coulpe of months ago I asked her to play 'Bill Bailey',
expecting to hear Pearl Bailey, instead she played
Helen Humes. That was the first I had heard from Helen,
I now own that CD. Amazon likes it when I listen to this show.

:hi:

4. Love seeing Vinegar's name on that LP cover, Ptah.
I saw him play a gig here on the 30th floor of the big pink building shortly before he died.

He was old and tired, leaning his back against one of those big windows, that bass weighing heavily on him, but he played just wonderfully.

17. Just want to point out that Leroy Vinnegar is another one...
of those great bass players who worked with the Jazz Crusaders. They never had a regular bass player, and my theory is that they rode their bass players so hard that no one could keep that as a regular job.

11. What the hell is this live trumpet thing?
Edited on Sat Sep-09-06 11:40 AM by swag
What a smoking performance this is.

on edit: live quartet or quintet it sounds like. It's still amazing.

12. Sounds like Eddie Harris. I'm wondering who is on trumpet.
I've been thinking about Red Rodney. Wonder if J has any, with or without Charley Parker.

15. Wow! I came late to Red Rodney. Thanks Jess.
A friend dragged me to his tribute concert. It was at the Beacon in NYC. (I lost my favorite umbrella at that concert.) He had already had one stroke, but was playing great. That was some fine music. I like to buy jazz by browsing stores rather than online. But you don't see Red much in the bins. That one is worth having.
