What was the message of 'Easy Rider'?
What did Wyatt mean when he said, "Y'know what, Billy — we blew it"?

Yeah, I'm gonna get flamed for that, but it's true

16. Shakespeare was just selling tickets; Mark Twain was selling books
Everything has a message, whether we intend it to or not.

I think that in English classes we are taught that the author always had some kind of deeper meaning, a meaning besides just telling a good story. That's not true. The author just wanted to spin a yarn, usually, but there is always evidence of her, or her society's, beliefs that are evident.

There IS always a deeper meaning, it's just that, most of the time, it's accidental.

5. Stay out of the South
The movie was written by people who enjoy hiking and other outdoor activities in the South. They were just trying to keep the crowds away so they could enjoy the South's natural beauty in solitude.

10. At this point we don't know
I did go to the trouble of checking IMBD. It lists three writers: Peter Fonda: born in New York, Dennis Hopper, born in Dodge City and Terry Southern born in Texas.

I think the beauty of the film is that you'll never know for sure so you can apply whatever "meaning" is most comforting to you, like those early REM albums where Stipe never enunciated so you could insert whatever lyrics you wanted to.

8. They didn't act righteously
They dedicated time to partying and shit for the sake of partying. Not because they wanted to experience life.

$$$ had corrupted them from just being "free and easy tokin' weed guys"

You know, it's actually a pretty terrible movie
