OK, who speaks Russian & knows their weaponry?

I had a great find at a yard sale this morning, a wooden ammo box of some sort that fits perfectly on the back of my motorcycle. It's got great little latches, quite clever. Color match for the bike, too! :D

Anyone know what the heck used to sit in it? I'm going to say "bullets," but I'm no expert. :P

1. Yep, it's an ammo box for the 7.62 mm rifles of the Russian army.

Usable in a variety of rifles, it appears: semi-automatic rifle, automatic rifle, and rifle-something or other ("pushmetraska"?).

4. Indeed
The interweb tells me NATO fires a lot, and possibly the single most recognizable rifle in the world -- the AK-47 -- does also.

Grand box, at any rate. The last 16th of an inch turning the latches whangs down on the thing and kinda seals it. :)

7. More likely it's machine gun ammo belts.
The word "Avtomatik" is pretty clear to see. The nomenclature numbers, M-70, M-72 and so on, are not familiar to me. But they may be machine guns.

9. Is it a Yugoslavian ammo box?
Edited on Sat Sep-09-06 09:43 PM by BrotherBuzz
they use the same russian 7.62 rounds, but some of the weapons nomenclature sounds more like the The Serbian M70 Series, or the Yugoslavian M59/66's.
