God didn't want me to shoot an elk today.

Good friend of mine invited me to tag along with him as he went bowhunting this morning. He goes on foot, into high mountain country. I fully equipped myself to document the experience -- with the camera, as I don't hunt myself.

Packed backpack.

Filled water bottles.

Set aside appropriate clothes to jump into.

Charged second set of batteries.

Cleaned off photo cards.

Got to bed at reasonable hour.

Set alarm for 3:30 a.m.

Did not turn alarm on. :eyes:

Surely he rolled up some hours ago, saw lights off, rolled on. :(

Very unlike me. In fact, I don't think I've neglected to properly set the alarm in like ten years.

The Powers that Be apparently intended something else for me today. Sigh.

He's rather amazing, actually. 24 years old, been at it forever. I watched him send arrows through a knot hole in a fence one afternoon.

On the plus side, I'm not hauling meat off the side of some mountain right now. On the down side, I'm not hauling meat off the side of some mountain destined for my freezer. :shrug:
