6. I am a nice guy...but
the first time I did it to my wife it was an accident. She was in the closet hanging up clothes, I walked in and touched her shoulder, to get her attention, and she jumps 10ft in the air, and screams....the look, the expression on her was priceless...damn, even right now remembering that moment, brings a smile to my face.

So, why do I do it? It ties in with the above paragraph...the look, the expression of people when they get spooked....it happens to me also, and its all in good fun to me, but I know that some people take it the wrong way. My wife is so easy to spook, it amazes me, but the last time I got her good was in march.

It was cold...fire going, our bedroom door open...it was roughly 10pm, and she just got into bed....the lights are off,and I go into the living room, and I get an idea....I get on my hands and knees in the kitchen, and slow/carefully I creep into the bedroom...our dog doesn't even bark(this time, thank god) and I crawl right next to her, near the bed...I grab her arm, and start pretend biting/growling on her shoulder, and my word....

The Scream that could be heard for 100 Miles....:) Oh man, she was PISSED!! But I didn't care, I laughed so hard, I could barely breathe....:) Yeah, I'm evil....:hi:

41. He had me fooled too . . . .
He got me with that whole "nice guy" charade. I should have known that it was all just an act when he couldn't stop laughing. Little does he know that what goes around, comes around. He won't know where...he won't know when...but when it happens, there will be no doubt as to why }(

Let's just say, he sleeps hard and Spot is on my side ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!

7. I really REALLY hate that sort of thing...
:grr:
I had a hyper startle reflex to start with...and a car accident 6 years ago made it worse.

Depending in my state of mind when it happens I'll either cuss, burst into tears,
or take a swing atcha.

8. They only do it to me once
Because I swing first and see who it is second. We've got one of those people at work - she's the meat department manager and has a habit of going into her freezer then walking up behind someone and putting her cold fingers on their neck. She did that to me. Just once. My elbow flew up and back and caught her square in the mouth. Hard.

Don't fuck with me. ;)

15. Spank 'em upside the head AND warn 'em Pesci-style.
:grr: Doing that to someone by accident is just that---an accident. However, if it's on purpose, it's sadistic. It's NOT funny. And I say this as someone who has had that pulled on them and witnessed someone else having it pulled on them (without advance warning to me---I'd have stopped it if I knew ahead of time).

You do that to me on purpose, you die. Plain and simple. You do that to me accidentally and laugh, you get HURT. :P

say, washing a car to blast someone else with water from the hose, thinking it's funny. Especially when they're reading a book.

Mrs R did that once. Only once. She'll never do it again.

No, no, not a physical impression! I've never hit a woman in my life, not even in self-defense. (Yes, I've been in that situation.)

Sometimes, with the right delivery (which I can do very well), a quietly growled "That's not fucking funny" can go a LONG way.

Caller ID so we can stay in touch. It was great fun talking to you; lots of laughs. I know that Mrs R sounded groggy when she answered the phone, but she hadn't been feeling well and had gone to bed early.

She won't listen to me...I've told her over and over that we don't need to have a damn phone in the damn bedroom, because when we're in there we don't need interruptions...she says "What if someone dies in the middle of the night?" My answer is always "They'll be just as dead in the morning."

We'll keep in touch. And you will, of course, pay us a housewarming visit after the move?

45. Last night I got tackled by a drunk cowgirl
Maybe she was a reverse cowgirl...a tall blonde with a cowboy hat, anyway. She came in low when I was in a club, after work, wrapped her arms around my waist from behind, and just charged and kept pushing...I smacked into the petite girl I was talking to and was caught off balance such that she and I were carried along, stumbling, until we ran into a table and almost knocked the thing over until I could dislodge the cowgirl by pounding my knuckles into the top of her hands 'til the pain registered in her alcohol-addled mind. I didn't know it was a woman, and she was one strong woman (and had to be about six feet tall). She got a little too frisky soon after, and when she and another of her party fell over, and knocked over a large metal sign that fell on top of them, security threw them out. Pretty obnoxious behavior.

Too many people come up behind me and grab me (not the bottom-grab thing...that doesn't startle me much nowadays) when I'm in Elvis mode and a few times, lately, I've just given them an elbow for their troubles. They deserve it. they have no right to touch me in any way, especially in such a potentially dangerous way, just because I'm dressed like an icon. I don't know what they have on their mind and in a town like this it's best to assume the worst. Also, maybe, it'll teach them not to tug on Elvis' cape (or spit into the wind, or pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger, and to not mess around with Forrest).

A few months ago some drunk idiot snuck up behind me and basically put me in a headlock, so I assumed he was a real threat and I dropped down, gave him a hard elbow strike to the floating ribs, and when he let go I pushed him so that he reeled backwards about 15 feet and I told him not to ever, ever, come near me again. About a half hour later, there he was again, but this time security did their job and marched him off with his arms locked behind him. I probably would have been within my rights to hurt him a lot worse, because what he did was assault (battery, I guess, actually). Idiots. My partner's been suckerpunched too many times, and even kicked in the face, by some of the detritivores who visit Las Vegas, so we've always got to be aware of that crap...having our faces messed up kind of detracts from our ability to get our job done, too. :grr:

One of my seniors in a kung fu school that I attended for years is a Vietnam vet who is still a little 'edgy' (he hits the deck any time a car backfires...though, in the neighborhood where we used to train before the school relocated, most of those 'backfires' were probably actual gun shots) and is a phenomenal martial artist...you do not want to get behind him. Another friend, also a Vietnam vet, was once walking along in Hollywood with a friend of his (a Vietnam vet and longtime martial artist) and when they walked past the $cientology Celebrity Center one of the Dianetics hucksters they have (or used to have, anyway) outside the door there jumped out of the shadows at them to begin his pitch and ended up being swiftly thrown to the ground by my friend's friend. I would so have loved to have seen that. :D

46. Ooo..having said that, I am one of those sneaky types
Not that I do anything like I describe above, but I tend to walk pretty quietly for such a large organism (I think a lot of it has to do with growing up playing around in the bush, either playing war with my friends or watching birds and, anyway, I think people who spend a lot of time in such environments tend to naturally walk softer, more carefully, and with greater stealth -- 20 years of martial arts training doesn't help much, either!) and I very often inadvertently startle people when they turn and I'm there. Especially women. I feel really bad about it. But when I try to do something to announce my presence, like make some noise, that stimulus usually elicits the same kind of startle response. Can't win. Maybe I should wear a bell, like a cat.

58. It also feeds into the whole thing related to men walking the streets and
happening to go the same way as a woman or women, and the discomfort that -- I know in my case -- the man feels because he is aware of potentially being perceived as a threat. I often make sure I stumble, drag my feet, step on metal access covers, or catch pavement seams with my shoes so that I kick up enough noise to warn a woman that I'm in the vicinity and will usually switch sides of the street, walk down the middle of the road, or otherwise alter my trajectory to give her as wide a berth as possible, even if it's anything but convenient for me. I tend to walk quickly and that just adds to the startle factor when I'm coming in from the rear. I hate that this is how it is out there, but it is, and I don't want to be adding to any woman's fear level.

This applies most keenly at night, when I do a lot of walking, but also in daylight hours when I'm in fairly unpopulated parts of a town. I'm aware that I move quickly and pretty quietly and that my large maleness would freak out many women who'd sense me at the last moment and turn to find me on their tail or about to pass them. Their own walking throws up a variety of internal and external sounds that can help mask mine, too, and it's kind of surprising just how much noise I have to consciously make before some people (maybe because they're not hearing me or maybe because they're just lost in thought) register my presence. And, despite the safety-in-numbers idea, I do the same when there's a pair of women, especially at night -- did this the other night when I was coming up fast behind a pair of women who were exercise walking: shuffled my feet, almost jumped on a manhole cover, clearend my throat, let my bretah out noisily a couple of times, switched sides of the street more than once, and didn't look at them when I finally passed them.

I used to fairly regularly freak my wife out when I'd just materialize behind her (no matter that, from my perspective, I was just bumbling about the house or wherever and not trying to be a ninja -- I did the latter, sure enough, when I was in the midst of 'gathering intelligence' related to the destruction of our marriage, and was so quiet that even I couldn't hear me...all those years of playing Tarzan in the wilds paid off, in the end :D ).

50. I did it again!
No snake this time though.

I walked into my mom's room to suggest getting pizza for dinner. I got out the word "Mom" and she jumped up and screamed. Then she got all pissy and asks what I wanted. I told her pizza and she agreed with that, so then I set out to purchase pizza.

And that is my story.

52. Take 10 ft piece of twine.
Tie one end to offender's testicles.

Tie other end to a heavy dog (say, a St. Bernard) who's sleeping.

Startle dog.

62. "I AM one of those assholes! BWAAAHAHAHAHAHA!"
Only with Mrs. DTW. She makes it way too easy. You can do it, then turn around three seconds later and do it again and she jumps just as high as the first time.

But she still loves me :loveya:
