Poll question: Today is my 30th b-day --- Is my life officially over?
I'm not sure when it happened, but somewhere along the line I started looking forward to birthdays as I do a trip to the dentist...I remember when I was younger, and I used to secretly mock friends, parents and relatives that had their anxieties about turning 30-40-50-60....But right now instead of celebrating I feel terrible about it...Granted, I do have a lot of crap and personal demons in my life I'm trying to work through, and I've been asking myself those eternal questions about life while not coming up with any answers....Maybe all the Sept. 11 hoopla is having its effect--Who knows? All I know is that I have not been happy for a long time now..

1. My dear Blue_Tires!
Is your life officially over?

Pardon me, but this is BS!

I am now 62.....and I will be 63 in November........

There is no way your life is even half over........

You need to get some help here.......and get busy living, instead of being busy dying......

There are so many good things that you still can do!

Trust me on this..........

And, BTW.....Happy Birthday!

3. I had to vote for "be happy you even made it to 30."
I mean, we ARE living in bushworld. We're all lucky to be here. LOL?

I just turned 50 last month. It was traumatic at the time, but now I can't even remember what I did that day. (Maybe that's not a good sign?)

I think all 'big' birthdays make us do a bit of soul searching. So consider yourself right on schedule there. As for the crap and personal demons - I'm not making light of it, but we all go through rough spots. Hang in there and hold on to DU'ers. I have been so depressed lately about the state of the country/world, you name it - but I find hope here. This board gives me the will to keep fighting.

And by the way, you ARE young. Thirty is YOUNG in my mind. I'd give anything to go back to where you are and do it over. So take some advice. Take a good look at where you've been, what you've done that you'd like to change or do better or different, and do it. Then you won't be like me, wishing I were thirty and could do things over. You are young enough to make a real change and put a lot of positives in your life. You'll get over the bumps. And someday you'll be fifty and you'll think back on thirty and go "what was I thinking? Old at thirty?" ;)

Okay, seriously? Find something to do that gives your life meaning if this is how you feel about having sixty or more good years left to live.

21. It think this will be your best decade probably.
I was pretty developmentally delayed for whatever reason so what most people go through in their teens I went through in my twenties. I was way behind. My early thirties were nice, and mid-thirties too. Now I'm starting to see some aging in my body in my late thirties which utterly sucks and I know it truly is all down hill from here.

My 30s were kind of chaotic, and I learned a lot from them. I'm 43 now, and I have more self-confidence and energy than I did in my 20s or my 30s. You have a lot to look forward to, so don't dwell on 30, or even 40. :bounce: :toast:

25. Hell,
Your life is just starting. Hell, I'm 45, think I'm 20 and act like I'm 15. I figure at this rate, I'll be ready for a playpen before much longer.

Hmmmmmmm...actually, now that I think about it, 'playpen' could be defined in any number of ways. So what if I'm 45? Anyone who can't appreciate the wisdom and experience that I've gained over the years doesn't deserve the benefit of it. And there are lots of benefits.

Happy birthday!!!!

Hey, I feel you on the sharing bit. I'm lucky if I can cash in maybe one weekend a month of the nookie (yeah, yeah, I know...I have friends who have been "incel"--involuntarily celibate for over two years, but I don't have extenuating circumstances like they do). It's a tremendous waste, really as those treasures really ought be...uh...brought out and USED as often as possible.

Three to four times a day on the weekend would be a nice start. :)

62. Happy Birthday! And it's not--it will definitely get better.
When I turned 30, I felt similar to how you feel. I was bored, lonely, had no boyfriend, or even dates--didn't even manage to get laid very often. Had a boring job. All my friends were involved with someone. I was totally bummed out, felt really old. And for us women, we can start feeling like we're too old for anyone to be attracted to any more. All of my friends except me got thrown birthday parties for their 30th that year. I sat home alone drinking and getting stoned, blasting the stereo.

But you know what? I feel silly about it now. True, I was unhappy then, but I certainly wasn't old. That year, I answered an ad in the back of a local music magazine and started doing things for the magazine. Then I started meeting more people and having more fun in my life. I still didn't have a boyfriend, but things started getting better.

I'm 51 now, and interestingly I've been getting laid more in my fifties than I did when I was 30! For a while I had a "friend with benefits" who was 15 years younger than me, and I recently met a man on an online dating site who I've been seeing for 5 months.

Keep on working through your crap and find something you enjoy doing. Then when you hit 40, you might be doing what I did at that age: I got my S.O. to throw me a huge birthday party with all my friends there. Good luck, and don't give up.

Nah - I don't feel my life even started until my late 20's. I feel better, much more confident at 40 than I ever have in my life.

I find life starts to be liberating around the mid-30 mark.

Keep working on releasing those personal demons...you will, with time and effort...life will get much better and become much more rewarding.

As for the eternal questions - I don't see anything wrong with that. To me, it signifies that you are wanting to do something with your life, to make something of it, because you recognize that we are only here briefly. Questioning is good...coming up with your own answers even better. There is no one size fits all. :hi:
