RANT: To the person who responded to my LiveJournal entry...

and basically called me an unpatriotic bitch, FUCK YOU.

It went a little something like this. My original entry...

I hate that CNN & Co. have turned today into a cheap and disgusting ratings grab.

I hate that every solemn memorial service is on TV.

I hate that people who are trying to mourn have cameras and microphones shoved in their faces.

I hate that the Bush administration is fucking everywhere today.

I hate that the people at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania have to share their day with the very assholes who caused their grief.

I hate that, for most people, today isn't about the people that we lost 5 years ago.

I hate that ABC ran a vile piece of shit mockudrama blaming Bill Clinton.

I hate that some people believed them.

I hate that 3000 people died and we learned nothing.

I hate that we are all being told how and when to mourn.

I hate that BushCo has squandered every bit of goodwill we could have built on.

I hate that, instead of mourning with us today, people in other countries are cursing us.

I hate that, in many ways, I agree with them.

I hate that there are children, spouses, and family members that still don't have answers.

I hate that their government is actively ensuring that they never do.

I hate that I can't think of 9/11 without being filled with hatred.

I hate that the hatred has very little to do with the people who actually hijacked the airplanes.

I hate that the hatred almost outweighs the sadness.

I hate that politics have trumped tragedy.


For those of you who are so inclined, take a moment today to think about what this anniversary should really be about. It's not about BushCo. It's not about Afghanistan. It's not about war or peace. It's not about 24 hour coverage. It's about the people who died and the families that are trying to make it through the day today, as they have every day for the past 5 years. Think of them. Mourn with them. Cry for them.

And then move on. Just like they have been trying to do every day, every minute, since 9/11/01.


Her response, in a nutshell: I'm not ashamed to be an American. This is a great country. I support our military. Blame radical muslims. Everyone hates us until they need our help, then they come whining and begging for money, which we give them, and then they hate us again. Iraqis are thankful we're there, but the "news" spins it so that it looks like they hate us. Stop bashing America.

You can listen to "Self-evident" Ani Difranco's poem about 9/11 if you want to, I've listened to it quite a few times over the last few days and it's nice to hear the crowd roaring when she makes some of the more salient points. It's kind of buffered me from this garbage going on on the TV. Hurricane Katrina killed the significance of 9/11 in my mind pretty much. That was an event of a couple hours whereas Bush just sat back and let thousands of people and hundreds of thousands of animals die during Katrina over the course of months when most of it absolutely been prevented. How can we justifiably get righteous about terrorists murdering thousands of our citizens when this admin murdered at least as many if not more by neglect and intentional failure to respond to Katrina while we all watched...

She claims she didn't intend to call me unpatriotic and then says "I was simply voicing my love of country as everyone else was voicing their hatred."

I don't even know why I'm bothering.

election of 2004...I felt it badly. So badly, I found it hard to go to sleep, because I couldn't wrap my head around how W got re-elected. Thank god for DU, because I finally found a haven online, where I could debate people in good fashion...instead of being ridiculed, or having insults thrown at me. Outside of DU my debates usually went like this...
