Check out the article...There are over a dozen of these super nests in Alabama alone. Entomologists think it has to do with the lack of a cold winter. The super nests have multiple queens!

8. Holy crap!
how would you even get rid of that thing short of setting the whole car on fire? I had a wasp nest form in a crevice between my passenger side door and car one semester while I was away at college but a golf club and a well aimed can of Raid took care of that. I don't think there is enough Raid spray in the world that can kill that nest :scared:

11. I drove the car around for a week without knowing it!
My friend opened up the passenger side door and discovered it...suffice to say we were both pretty freaked out by it. Although I would imagine if you use the doors on a regular basis I don't think they would nest. I never opened the passenger side door plus the car sat in front of my house for almost 2 months.

26. Maybe they're evolving super-sociality?
Imagine what would happen if social insects evolved a several-tiered system of control, with sub-queens and so on! They could have semi-autonomous divisions and become even more complex, with each individual acting as a cell in a superorganism. Eventually they could reach levels of complexity equal to the human brain! And then they would take over!

39. from the article:
Dr. Michael D. Goodisman, a biologist at Georgia Tech who has studied large nests in Australia, said he's heard of some large ones in Georgia and Florida, but not as big as those in Alabama.A 6-foot by 3-foot nest on a pond stump in Bulloch County, Ga., was featured July 12 on CNN.

40. Please, please, please let us have a very cold winter in NE GA this year.
:scared:

The people who own the farm where I keep my horse had to dispatch a huge quantity of honeybees that had nested underneath pallets of hay in the barn. This was a number of years ago. They donned WWII era wool army pants, hats, gloves, heavy boots, balaclavas, filter masks and hats (mind you, this was in August in Georgia)and the two of them advanced into the hay stall with fire extinguishers (cold CO2 type). They froze the entire nest of bees. It worked like a charm! The bees never returned (thank god!).
