Smokey is dying...

Our little miniature bundle of bunny fuzz is making preparations to pass. He's cuddled in the corner in a bed of hay.

11 years ago we found him in a pet store. Paul fell in love with him. So we brought him home with us. He amused us by knowing what opening the cabinet means. Every time we walked toward it he'd stand on the side of the tank and wait for his yogurt drops. He knew which pellets in his food he liked the best. The rest? Well those because trash at the bottom. He wasn't much bigger than a handful. The dogs and cats liked to watch him in his tank. Bailey would sit there and bark at him just because he needed the bunny to know that it was his house.

For 11 years you made us smile. And now I wish you a safe and painless passing, my friend. I love you.

Tribute To A Best Friend

Sunlight streams through window pane
unto a spot on the floor....
then I remember,
it's where you used to lie,
but now you are no more.
Our feet walk down a hall of carpet,
and muted echoes sound....
then I remember,
It's where your paws would joyously abound.
A voice is heard along the road,  
and up beyond the hill,
then I remember it can't be yours....
your golden voice is still.
But I'll take that vacant spot of floor
and empty muted hall
and lay them with the absent voice
and unused dish along the wall.
I'll wrap these treasured memorials
in a blanket of my love
and keep them for my best friend
until we meet above.
