Husband just had a fundie encounter....
The guys that mow our lawn (father and son) do a great job on our yard and are very reasonable with their rates. They have been our regular yard guys for about a year now. We've known all along that the father is an independent fundie minister, and his son is legally blind and totally dependent on his parents but is able to do some yard work. They are not wealthy people by any means and are just barely scraping by, and being the humanist I am, we have them cut the yard regardless of their beliefs. We have never talked politics or religion with them, and that is intentional since our beliefs are polar opposites. Well, my husband went outside when they arrived today, and they got into a conversation about last night's speech by W. Rev. Fundie started in on how W was exactly right and launched into all the fundie talking points he could muster. Husband held off as long as he could, but he finally said (politely), "You're barking up the wrong tree. NWC and I are staunch liberal Democrats. We don't agree with Bush at all on anything." Rev. Fundie stopped in his tracks and said with a smile on his face, "We'll bring you around eventually!" :yoiks: Sounds like a crusade's about to happen.... :P

I hate to say it, but if the politics/religion issue gets out of hand, we'll have to get someone else to cut the grass. :(

1. Ask if it was his or his father's sin that caused his son's blindness.

4. Just find an old William Jennings Bryan speech
about America becoming a global empire and attacking conservatives from a Biblical standpoint. He probably won't read it but its fun to throw their beliefs in their face and show how Republicans ignore real Christianity.

5. Hire "Godless heathens lawncare"
And make sure the truck is parked in front of your house next time they're in the area.

6. Fire the Fundies!
Tell them to go soak up some compassionate conservatism. I wouldn't let them near my yard.

9. I'm about ready to do that.
As I said, I'm a humanist, and I have compassion for my fellow human beings. I don't knock anyone for being poor, and if I can help them, I will. :P But if you throw that help back in my face for telling me my beliefs are "wrong", then I will stop helping. We've been able to avoid the issues so far, but not now.
