Sure, I can laugh NOW! It's a fun little story. Been one year since I wiped out on some stairs at my sister's house. Knocked myself out for a few seconds and then saw my wrist and almost puked! It wasn't an "open" fracture. Just broke about every little bone in the wrist joint. Had to have surgery and they put 3 pins in to hold things together and then the (Blare of Trumpets here!) EXTERNAL FIXATOR! That was screwed into the arm and hand bones (I think I'm gonna puke again!) to keep it completely immobile.

Without making this a novelette, I had to clean the entry points every day for 6 weeks. It was the most horrifying time of my life! And, yes, I actually screamed when the doc removed the fixator. Since, naturally, the bone had healed around one of the screws and he had to practically stand on me to get enough leverage to "unscrew" it.

It will never be the same wrist I had before. Healed kinda crooked and hurts/aches every damn day. And, of course, I'm right handed to boot!

MORAL OF THE STORY: Don't ever use stairs. EVER!

57. Oh. My. God. And TELL me about stairs . . .

Ten years ago I missed a step and broke my ankle. Since then: four surgeries, weird machines, a doc here on the east coast who said "what did they (the west coast docs) DO to you?" and then an infection that almost cost me my foot. Mrs. V. cleaned and dressed the wound every four hours for weeks.

OUCH. I feel ya, Bud. Rain's coming in and the ankle is throbbing.

Hug those sweetie babies for me.
