Best Simpsons episode ever?
Edited on Tue Sep-12-06 11:26 PM by XemaSab
Certainly among my favorites are Bart selling his soul, flag day, tomacco, and Krusty's daughter.

Any others?

1. I'm not familiar with Simsons.
And they have characters with names suspiciously similar to The Simpsons. Perhaps a lawsuit is in order?

5. George and Barbara Bush move next door.
The relationship between Bart and George Bush is a homage to Dennis the Menace, in which a young scamp terrorised an older neighbour.

The ending still cracks me up. The Bushes are history and Gerald Ford moves in:

Gerald Ford: Say, Homer, do you like football?
Homer: Do I ever!
Gerald Ford: Do you like nachos?
Homer: Yes, Mr. Ford.
Gerald Ford: Well, why don't you come over and watch the game and we'll have nachos, and then some beer.
(Homer and Ford cross the street together.)
Homer: Jerry, I think you and I are going to get along just---
(They both trip in Ford's driveway)
Homer & Ford: D'oh!

9. Easy
(sort of)

The episode where Homer goes to work for Mr. Scorpio. (Call me Hank!)

The episode where Sideshow Bob becomes Mayor. (The dead have risen and are voting Republican!)

and

The episode where Homer and company join the Navy. (Russian Ambassador: The Soviet Union will be happy to take in your wayward submarine. US Ambassador: Soviet Union? I thought you guys broke up? Russian Ambassador: Yes... that's just what we wanted you to think! *evil laugh* *presses button*, sign flips over saying USSR, "peace" flag has Soviet flag draped over, parade float has tank pop out of it, Berlin Wall pops up out of the ground and Lenin smashes out of his glass coffin yelling "MUST... CRUSH... CAPITALISM!)

First when Homer explains why there were no pictures of Maggie (quit his job to pursue his dream of being a pin monkey before having to beg for his job after finding out Marge was pregnant w/ Maggie).

Second, when Homer went to live in the gay district of Springfield.

22. Either the vegetarian one, or the gun one...
The one where lisa decides to become a vegetarian is great and has some classic lines:

But the one where Homer gets a gun after the riots at the soccer game is also great especially because of the juxtaposition of the american soccer announcer vs. the brazillian one.

American(in droll, bored voice): Halfback....passes to center....back to halfback....holds it....holds it....holds it.

Brazillian (shouting and barely able to sit down): HALFBACK!!!!! PASSES TO CENTER!!!! BACK TO HALFBACK!!!!! HOLDS IT!.....HOLDS IT! HOOOOOOOOLLLLDDSSS IIIIIT!!!!!!!"

24. Kamp Krusty or Bart the Mother -which has two classic Skinner quotes
Skinner: Now, there has been some confusion over our bird watching rules. You cannot count birds you have seen at the zoo, on stamps, or in dreams.
Moe: Well, I'm back to square one.

Principal Skinner: (referring to the Bolivian tree lizard) It's already wiped out the dodo, the cuckoo, and the ne-ne, and it has nasty plans for the booby, the titmouse, the woodcock, and the titpecker.
Marge: How vile!
Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bart_the_Mother"

Skinner: Well, I was wrong; the lizards are a godsend.
Lisa: But isn't that a bit short-sighted? What happens when we're overrun by lizards?
Skinner: No problem. We simply release wave after wave of Chinese needle snakes. They'll wipe out the lizards.
Lisa: But aren't the snakes even worse?
Skinner: Yes, but we're prepared for that. We've lined up a fabulous type of gorilla that thrives on snake meat.
Lisa: But then we're stuck with gorillas!
Skinner: No, that's the beautiful part. When wintertime rolls around, the gorillas simply freeze to death.

34. I've tried watching some of the newer episodes
and just didn't think they were funny. I prefer to remember the show as it was in the beginning and not as it is now. Sometime around the 6th season The Simpsons got new writers. I think the earlier writers left to do King of the Hill and Futurama. KOTH has been more consistantly funny with better stories over the years and is now a much better cartoon than The Simpsons.... IMHO

36. I agree with you, mvd, I think the quality has improved lately.
The Simpsons sort of bottomed out a few seasons ago, when it was just painful to watch.

But lately I think it has rebounded.

My nominee for "all-time worst" episode has to be the one with Mel Gibson, several seasons ago.

It was around that time that I think the show hit bottom.

But lately they seem to be getting their groove back.

69. I like the one where Homer gets obese
so he can get disability or something. He wears moo-moos and works from home.

I have to admit that I don't watch it as much as I used to, so I haven't seen a lot of the newer episodes.

71. My very favorite: When the meteor was coming toward Springfield
When Marge's sisters said,"Well that really gives you an appreciation for the beauty of Life..." and then takes a drag off her cigarette. :D

77. The best one is a matter of personal experiences
At least for me it is.

I work in the foster care system. I laughed my ass off at the episode where the Simpson kids went into foster care. The writers really had us pegged.

80. Homer takes a baptism for Bart -
Edited on Thu Sep-14-06 08:09 AM by BigMcLargehuge
another great one - Flanders loses his mind after the hurricane that destroys only his house:

Homer (reading from index card): I mock your values system.
Ned: Ohhhh Homer, oop, bye by! (window closes)
Homer: Previous occurences when I professed friendship were FRAUDULENT!
Ned: Well hi Homer... (window closes)
Homer: I have had relations with your spouse or significant other. NOW THAT'S PSYCHIATRY!

The one that had me convulsing with laughter - Homer is accused of sexual harassment by the babysitter where they had the talkshow "Ben" The Only Daytime Talk Show Hosted by a Giant Bear, who, of course, goes nuts and trashes the set during the show where the topic is "Mothers and Runaway Daughters Reunited by their Hatred of Homer Simpson". That ep also had the great phony news show "Rock Bottom" where they clumsily edited Homer's plea for innocense into a grunting drooling admission of guilt.

Homer: Well beer, we've had some great times...
When I was 17,
I drank some very good beer.
I drank some very good beer
I purchased with a fake ID
My name was Brian McGee
I stayed up listening to Queen
When I was 17.

Lovejoy: So Homer, pleas feel free to tell us anything. There's no
judgment here.
Homer: The other day I was so desperate for a beer I snuck into the
football stadium and ate the dirt under the bleachers.
Lovejoy: I cast thee out!

86. Endut! Hoch Hecht!
"Krusty Gets Canceled" was great in every way, especially the Worker and Parasite cartoon from eastern Europe.
The designers and animators nailed that.
(I love when Krusty says at the end, "What the HELL was that?")

I also love the episode where Lisa gets braces and Homer becomes his union's president.
The Big Book of British Smiles and the great gags built around Homer having to pee (while visiting Burn's Manor).

My favorite Simpsons quote:
Marge: "Homer, have you been up all night eating cheese?"
Homer: "I think I'm blind."
