Pit-Bull Attacks Miniature Horse

PORT ORANGE, Fla. -- Volusia County authorities said a pit bull attacked a miniature horse owned by a five-year-old Port Orange girl.

The horse was left with a six-inch gash on its right front leg.

Destiny Russell was grooming her horse when the dog attacked Monday evening.

Her father, Keith Russell, tried beating the dog with a post. A friend helped get the dog into a stable until animal control officials arrived.

The dog is in the custody of Southeast Volusia Humane Society.

Its owner hasn't been found. It's not clear if the dog will be put to sleep.

:cry: The little girl is fortunate she was not mauled. I hope that her mini-horse (it's actually a horse, not a pony) is OK. Leg injuries can be very serious and even life threatening. :(
