Did anti-depressants play a role in the death of Anna Nicole's son?
"The problem with MAO-Inhibitors is due to the inadvertent effect on another chemical called tyramine. Monoamine oxidase enzyme usually also breaks down tyramine. If an MAO-inhibitor is used, tyramine is not broken down as it usually is, and levels of this chemical build up. Tyramine causes elevation of blood pressure, so an increase in this chemical leads to an increase in blood pressure which could lead to stroke, heart attack, and other nasty side effects. Because of this, people using MAO-inhibitors must avoid foods that are high in tyramine, such as alcohol, legumes (e.g., fava and soy beans), cheese, fish, ginseng, meat, sauerkraut, shrimp paste, soups, and yeast extracts (baking yeast is OK in small quantities)."

That's quite a list of things to avoid. I wonder if he had a celebratory toast or ? and the combination was fatal?

Tragic.

1. I wonder why he was on an MAO. I know people
still use them, but why wasn't he on an SSRI, I wonder. Apparently there are more tests coming back tomorrow. Maybe that will answer the mystery.

2. I'm speculating. All I know is that he was said to be on AD's.
MAO's are said to work "faster" so if he was on an MAO I suspect that may be why?

4. Right.....
I think it is more effective than SSRIs but the person must be more disciplined in their diet to avoid tyramine rich foods like aged cheese, avocados. The consequences of taking these foods with MAO could lead to a hypertensive crisis.

5. She's saying they know the cause of death and are waiting confirmation
Earlier today, Bahamas's coroner Linda P. Virgill did little to quell speculation by saying that she knew the cause of Smith's death and alleging that a third person was in the room when he died.

"We do know the cause of death but we need to confirm it with a toxicology report," she told the Associated Press before adding:

"I can confirm that there was definitely a third person in the room at the time of death and I do know who that person is.

"But I am unwilling to reveal that information at this time for various reasons."

She's great at teasers, I'll give her that.

7. What does a third person being in the room have to do with it???? I don't
understand. Unless tht third person DID something to him, what difference does it make?

6. Well, there are benefits to MAOs over SSRIs,
like you said, they work faster; but the diet thing is a big thing for many people, you have to stick to it *religiously*. My understanding is that's why the SSRIs came about.

It's really a shame, no matter what happened to him. I thought he was probably the most stablizing factor in her life. She's surrounded by nuts.

8. Does that include Wellbutrin?
I never knew this about MAOI's. Is Wellbutrin one of those? I thought it might be an SRDI?
