Anyone else getting sick of the tinfoilers?
I've been here for quite awhile, and I remember when DU wasn't so full of them, but for some reason that number has skyrocketed.

It's gotten to the point where I cringe to look at DU every time there's some act of terrorism or violence because I already know exactly what to expect, tons of people claiming this was really some CIA/Mossad black op with absolutely no evidence whatsoever, apparentely these people think every single anti-American Islamist extremist terrorist magically vanished off the face of the earth after 9/11. It's almost made me quit.

And don't even get me started on the whole remote controlled planes on 9/11 and a cruise missle hitting the Pentagon crap...

1. I think with more posters the crazier stuff gets more attention/longevity
Because it is -so- fucking batsoid it draws lots of debate and posts, whereas sensible analysis that gets agreement or nuanced responses will be less noticeable and will receive fewer posts. It's easier to say "you're out of your gourd, nutbag" or "stop the tsunami machines NOW" than it is to say "well, I agree with x but consider y for reasons z."

2. That's true to some extent but
Look at just about any recent LBN thread on a terrorist attack.

About 80% of the posts will be screaming "CIA/MOSSAD FALSE FLAG BLACK OP!" ironically using the same type of logical fallacies used to claim Saddam had WMDs or supported al-Qaeda.

4. Yeah, just trying to offer an alternate explanation
I don't like the idea of "it was better back in the day!" whether it refers to a message board or to life in America, because memory is an imperfect thing and tends to gloss over some things and magnify others. But yeah, I also feel the ratio of woo-woos has been going up. Used to be I knew every single crazy DUer. Now I don't recognize hardly any of them. :D

5. there's no such thing as the 'good ol days'
because life changes every second that we live it, both good and bad

yeah there was the "roarin 20's" or the innocence of poodle skirts and malt shops of the 50's but lest we forget about the greed of the 20's that led to the great depression and the disgusting racism that reared its ugly head when black people started gettin all 'uppity' and tryin to get them some rights?

for every great memory there is an ugly one to go along with it...statements like 'it ain't like it used to be' are both obvious and kind of stupid - because it's never "like it used to be"

10. Actually, Rove sent me to discourage the poster and to kill the thread
He likes the crazy controversy here, in all shapes and forms, so that the righties won't believe us (as if they believe anything read or whispered outside of their hives).

I told him I wouldn't do his bidding any more, not until he sent me my check. I also told him I wanted out of the mickey mouse outfit, but I think he misunderstood me and thought I said I wanted him in his mickey mouse outfit and he sent me this picture

6. Personally, I'm sick of all the gullible consumers of neocon bullshit.
I don't know what hit the Pentagon. The public evidence is contradictory, inconclusive and in some cases appears to be intentionally manipulated to mislead.

as for remote control planes? I don't know. I do know the official explanation of 9-11 has more holes than king george's liver.

these people haven't told the truth about one single thing in over five years.

13. there is some wacky nonsense
no doubt

I used to get a perverse kick out of listening to Art Bell late night driving home from gigs

but to think people really not only believe in some of that stuff, but are obsessed by it . . .

9. now see, I've always preferred tinfoil, it clings better
or rather forms better and is easier to create a real seal with.

Of course, I like the plastic wrap for microwave cooking, even if it doesn't seal properly.

The tinfoil tends to make a mess if you put it in the microwave.

:hi:

12. No
Every so often, they're right. I don't mind when people go off on speculative tangents (but maybe that's because I write speculative fiction). It's easy enough to ignore the truly nutty.

16. Yes
but I take them as seriously as the "tell me I'm pretty!" and "Look! I'm flirting with my boyfriend! LOOK!" threads. That is to say - no one forces me to read them.

17. My foil hat tells me the tinfoilers are psyop agents trying to make these
boards seem whackier than it is. I bet an algorhythimic analysis of foil posts would reveal some interesting patterns but I failed math and may be talking out of my tin foil ass.

18. Only the ones who are convinced only they are right. You know, the
ones who jump into every Usama thread and proclaim with certainty that he is dead, or those who say things like "It's pretty much proven that 9-11 was an inside job, it's just a matter of convincing all the sheeple of the facts."

I love questions, I just hate certainty when there isn't cause for certainty. Too Republican for my blood.

19. Let me just say this
For all of those who say that 9/11 was a "controlled" demolition and that BushCo did this just to get a war let me ask you this, they have fucked up everything and I mean EVERYTHING during this administration, so why does anyone think that they would have gotten that right. First of all the amount of explosives that would be required to pull it off, do they really think that NO ONE would have blown the whistle. There is just waaaayyy too many people that are ready to believe it. I know that the Bushies are evil fucks who give other evil fucks a bad name, but I don't for a minute believe that they could have pulled this off, because as I previously said they have FUCKED up everything else.
