Ok, my 'rents are still married, 32 years later...I find that's not the norm at all. So, if your parents are both living, are they married, divorced, separated, or other? :)

until Mom died almost two years ago. As far as I could tell theirs was a very happy marriage. Mine lasted only 9 years.

No, my father got a rotten lot, non-remitting and before the really good drugs came along...He does his best, and has the best fucking attitude about it all...When you've almost died that many times, it chills you out a bit, I guess :shrug:

27. As with most of my life story, it's a long story.

My aunt and my mother raised me. I never knew my father. My mother was never married until I turned 24 years old. She is still married to my stepfather. I have no brothers or sisters unless you count the 1 stepbrother they call Bubba and the 1 stepsister they call Missy. Those aren't their names. That's just what they call them, proudly. :eyes:

I'm a bastard and proud of it. It ensures I won't have to spend eternity with Eddie Zimmerman, preacher at Temple Christian School, the school that I went to until 6th grade. He preached a sermon once where he kept saying over and over again, "If you don't have a father, then you don't belong to God. You are the literal spawn of Satan." Then he would have everyone in the chapel hold up their Bibles and shake them around to chase Satan away. I was still there ready to puke when that debacle was finally finished. I guess in his warped mind, I am Satan's daughter. They should make a movie about me. I can dress like Elvira and wear all black and be all evil and shit. I'd enjoy that. :evilgrin:

I don't know if he is still there. They actually have black students there now. I was amazed when a girl I know told me that. Back when I went there, they had a special PTA meeting to figure out a loop hole to keep the one black student who wanted to go there from going there. That place is still turning out some really fucked up people. The girl I know was molested by a teacher there. She won't go into details except to say that her kids will never go there. I don't know for sure if he is still there. Last time I talked to the girl I know was 6 years ago. He was still there then, but he has ties all over NC and VA. I shudder to think of the lives that man has fucked all kinds of up.

34. Other... it's complex.

My mom was my dad's third wife. My dad isn't even my dad; he was best friends with my biological father who died before I was born. So Mom married my dad, and dad adopted me. (For ease of reference, dad is my adopted father.)

They were together 8 years, had two more kids, then split. Then my dad, who is not the most stable of human beings, threatened my mother into remarrying him (he had the weight of the US Navy behind him, and convinced her that he would and could get custody, then take us to Okinawa or Singapore or something.) So she was also wife #4. He had an affair with a woman who refused to marry him even if my mother would consent to a divorce, creating his next daughter (#4).

They split again when I was 17 (thank all the gods that ever wrote bad poetry) and he remarried about 3 years later, to the mother of his 5th daughter, when my baby sister was about 3. That marriage lasted almost 5 years, was rocky the entire time, and ended in utter disaster.

He's now looking for wife #6, and is in Las Vegas... oh, god, yes I'm scared.

My mother married a guy several years after she and my dad split, a UFO nut with terminal cancer, no life insurance and minimal health insurance. He died two days before the Columbia accident. She now dates about 4 guys her age (50-60), any of whom would marry her and take care of her forever, but she's enjoying this singlehood.

I am not sure if it was more embarrassing for me to have to have this talk with her, or when we had the original talk, when I was 14, and I corrected her misconceptions.

I find them highly amusing, at least, from a distance. I wouldn't want to live with them again, and if nothing else, they taught me early on that authority figures are usually flawed and given to being wrong. That has served me well.

They should have divorced 5 years before they finally did. I was pissed at my dad back then. It took years for me to get close to him again. It took my wonderful step-mom to bring us back together. My dad died before I was born. They were only married a short time before he died in a car accident. The reason I chose "other" rather then "one or both deceased" is because my mom said that if he had never gotten into that accident, the fact is, they would have ended up getting a divorce. However, her old college sweetheart looked her up after his wife passed away, and they reconnected. They married less than a year after reconnecting (got married in 2003) and are still going strong.

Mom and Dad loved each other but never should have been married. I love both of my parents, and they love me and my siblings. They had an amicable divorce and have always been on good terms. My siblings and I have always appreciated that, and as I've told both of them many times, I've never heard of two people handling a divorce better around children. :) Neither parent showed hostility or meanness or irrationality around us during that time and afterward, and I've always been thankful for that.

My parents were married for 20 years and divorced when I was 16.

Mom and step-dad have been married for 24 years.

Dad and step-mom were married for 10 years when he died.

His wife #2 - I think about a year.

it will be 54 years this October. Both in their 80s and doing great! Thanks to the universal health care they receive, of course.
