I FUCKING HATE WEBSENSE
Okay, sorry about the language BUT...it was SO stupid. For like 2 nights I had facebook and whatnot on my school laptop at home (freshmen get to have the internet filter AT HOME..joy...& it's legal too-the school checked :( ).

2 nights of fun. And procrastination.

DAMN YOU. WHY DID WEBSENSE HAVE TO COME BACK ON.

FUCK WEBSENSE.

& my mom LIKES internet filters. most internet filter companies are run by religious right nut types who love the chip, so indirectly, my mom is a chimpy supporter. HAHA. I'm gonna drill that into her head!!!

that is all. Just wanted to vent my frustration with yall.

3. because they're borderline facist control freaks
bent on dominating student's lives because "we cant make good choices". Fuck that. Seriously.

I should start a petition to make internet filters against the law b/c they premote censorship of ideas and whatnot. Or make this shit my school is trying to pull against the law (DU is blocked by WebNONsense as a "message board or club"...bullshit, it's blocked because it's not a fundie religious nut website).

4. I mean, I can understand having the webfilters on the school computers
Edited on Fri Sep-15-06 07:32 PM by ZombieNixon
(doesn't mean I have to like it - my HS blocked the DU forums but not the rest of the site), but how the hell is it legal to force freshmen to have the webfilter on their home computers?

(I'm now officially pissed off on your behalf. :grr:)

5. I don't know...we should make a online petition or something
to make this kind of shit illegal.

I totally think the school should have webNONsense at school and at school only. Because facebook at school is distracting. But we're kids and we're supposed to have fun. And facebook is like the safest of all the "social networking sites" (WAY safer than myspace, imho, cause only your friends and people from your school can see your profile).

Thanks for being pissed off on my behaf! :D

REVOLUTION!!! :D :D :D

6. Well...
the most sensible thing to do (and this is what my HS did) is to install the webfilter on the school server itself. So when I was on the school computers, I couldn't post on DU (or use Facebook...I guess, FB wasn't available to HS students two years ago). Same when I was on my laptop on the school's wireless network. Therefore, the Internet itself was regulated without having to put unnecessary crap on students private, personal computers.

Problem with Facebook is that they're about to open it up to anyone, which will make it significantly less safe (and much more MySpace-like x(). Though I think it might be open to anyone via-invitation only, which might be OK...

8. Yeah, that's what they used to do
so that you can get on facebook at home and stuff. but now they're like "we want to help your parents by restricting your internet access" WTF. Facist fuckers....damn them!! They claimed that parents requested that they put websense at home on everyones laptops.....

Im totally serious about the petition thing. This SO should NOT be legal!!!

10. That's bullshit.
Total bullshit.

A petition's good, but do a real one if you could pull it off...they carry more weight than on-line petitions. You'll want to petition the school board, in which case, the more names of local adults you can get, the better. Problem is...don't you live in Mississippi or someplace? :(

11. Ya, i live in MS
and i go to a private school-which might be an issue, b/c they can do whatever the hell they want...but still, they cant pull of shit like this. This SHOULD be illegal for all schools-public or private.

I'd be considered a hero by my classmates if I succeded at this. And an uppity student by the administration. Sweet. The headmaster already kinda sorta hates me b/c i put my feet on a chair in the library :D

12. Yeah, the private school might be an issue,
but there is no fucking way they have any jurisdiction over what's on your home computer. Your parents, until you're 18: yes. The school: hell fucking no!

Eh...go for it, pissing off the administrators is usually a good thing. :D

7. Forcing web filters at home?
Bizarre.
I understand parents deciding to have it, but not a school. And it's legal? Yikes.
