How Do You Arrange Your Video Collection? ... Your CD Collection?
By star? By artist? By genre? Alphabetically by title? By year released? By year purchased?

By how much you liked/hated the movie? His/hers? His/his? Hers/hers? Adults/Family/Kids?

Also... once it's perfectly arranged, it never stays that way for very long does it?

2. My music
Is primarily MP3, and I keep it in files by artist, then album.

Video collection is fairly haphazard, because it's not too big. Only a couple of dozen DVDs so far. We'll likely alphabetise by title once we get more.

3. I used to do my CD's alphabetically...
but have pretty much given up on that. Now with mp3's I arrange them according to artist for most, and I also have a "singles" folder for random tuneage.
I do like to have everything properly labeled though. No lables dirves me nuts. Too easy to record over or delete something you actually might want to keep.

6. My CD's
are arranged alphabetically by artist, then by order of release if i have more than one by the same artist. DVD's arranged alphabetically by title. VHS arranged randomly. CD-R's not in any particular order, some of them not even labelled. I need to get more organized, but will probably procrastinate forever on that.

7. Genre, then alphabetically, then by potential embarrassment
And the stuff I'm embarrassed by goes in the back, so company can't see it -- if the guys saw just how many romance DVD's I own, I would NEVER hear the end of it, but what can I say, I'm a hopeless romantic and I love a happy ending.

The CD's, though, are totally haphazard. Although, once again, my Duran Duran collection is well-hidden. :-)

"Argumentus, you're totally neurotic, you know that? We're not talking normal-level-neurotic, we're talking WOODY ALLEN level neuroses here."

Oh, wait. That's me who says that.

8. My DVD's Are Arranged By Genre
Sci-Fi, War, Comedy, Drama, MUSICALS, Porn. --- Then alphabetically (mostly) by title within each genre. I say "mostly" because I keep series together regardless of how they ought to be alphabetized.

For example EVERY Planet Of The Apes DVD goes under "P"... even if "Escape From..." should go with the "E" movies. -- Also all my James bond movies are together regardless of title.

13. Alphabetically, mostly
The only time I stray from it is Orginal > Sequel. Analyze This goes before Analyze That, the 3 Austin Powers movies in order of release, and so forth.

I get teased relentlessly for my analness when it comes to my DVD collection.

...then by year of release.

videos and DVDs have lesser storage, so they aren't arranged.

I'm doing an Excell spreadsheet for the classical music (90%). It's simple: composer; work, and; artist. Simple format for my use only. The pop music LPs will be done the same way.

Later I'll deal with the 200 some-odd classical CDs and at least that many pop CDs. Then I have about 200 tapes. No 8-tracks though! The last 8-tracks got stolen at Ft. Sill in 1971 (The Carpenters were among the stolen. THANK YOU THIEF!).

But I'll bet you have fun doing it, even if it is labor intensive... I'm guessing that it will be a labor of love.

18. Sub-categories
1. Classical
a. anthologies of music by different composers
b. by composer in chronological order
2. Other
a. World
i. The Americas
ii. Europe
iii. Asia and the Pacific
iv. Africa
b. Pop/Rock (by performer in no particular order)
c. Jazz (by performer in no particular order)

As you can see, my two largest categories are classical and world. I have literally hundreds of CDs.

19. well.... it's mixed

video (what there is!):

porn in that drawer, everything else here and there.

music: (LPs, cassettes, CDs)

genre 1st (classical, broadway, rock, jazz)
then alphabetical by artist (or in some cases, ie. b'way) title
then (with multi by same artist/title) by release date

this always falls apart but, one every couple of years I put it all back again...

i had EVERYTHING in an access database, but it's years out of date now....

21. Considering I have just moved...
...my video and DVD collection is yet to be sorted out. When I do get around to doing it, it will be sorted out by genre.

My CD collection I only just got into order yesterday, and the way I have it set up is rock and roll, 70's, 80's, 90's, today (All various artists), then disco, groups, movies, love, and then finally cd singles.

23. Hmmm...
I don't have any cd's, but I do, however, sort out my mp3's by genre, then artist.

I don't have dvds, either. I have (free )videos on my computer that I sort according to title.
